The founder of the United Religions Initiative, a movement that seeks to become the dominant religious voice at the UN, blamed religion for the September 11th terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. At a Wednesday meeting at the UN Church Center, the Episcopal Bishop of San Francisco, William E. Swing, asserted that the hijackers did not hold a corrupted version of Islam because religions - all religions - are guilty of fostering terrorism. "There is a lot of terror and violence in a lot of scripture. There has to be a critique of that. We have to hold the religions' feet to the fire for the violence and terror within them."
Swing said, "The nations of the world have met every day for the past fifty years, the religions of the world have not. Who is more moral, the nations of the world or the religions of the world?" URI seeks to create a permanent body of religious ambassadors - a parallel organization to the UN - to address the problem of "fundamentalists in our own groups," an issue that traditional religion "wimps out on." Swing proclaimed that, in light of the terrorist attack, "It's a new day for inter-religious activity in the United States." Other participants at the meeting criticized either religion or capitalism. One person said, "The problem is religion - the whole concept of religion that requires conformity. The truth is different for every individual." Another claimed, "All religions have fanatical elements, we must delete those elements from scripture." Still another said, "The underlying causes are economic. We want more oil and bigger cars." Swing agreed, repeatedly saying "we must address the brokenness at the root of the terrorist attacks by bridging the chasm between the 'haves' and the 'have-nots.'" One participant wondered "how we can have a heart to heart dialogue with the terrorists."
Giandomenico Picco, former UN Under Secretary General, recounted his experiences dealing with terrorists in Lebanon and Afghanistan. Picco grew increasingly exasperated by the comments of Swing and the other participants. Picco said the terrorists engaged in a "hijacking of Islam, a hijacking of ideas." Picco also said that "Collective responsibility is baloney - there is individual responsibility for actions or no responsibility at all. Blaming institutions, religious or economic, allows individuals to get away with murder, literally. Why did they do it? Because they are wrong, they are criminals. We should not look for profound justifications." According to Picco, the real "chasm" Swing referred to is not between rich and poor, but between "those willing to kill innocent people and those not willing to kill innocent people." In response to the anti-Western bias of many of the statements, Picco said, "We still are very good." Picco, who is the personal representative of the Secretary-General for the UN Year of Dialogue among Civilizations, warned that dialogue with terrorists often results in death.
URI was founded in 1995 and is active in 58 countries. Along with Protestants and disaffected Catholics, URI includes witches, Druids and members of New Age movements. Swing himself is hostile to traditional and conservative faiths, once saying that "proselytizing will be illegal in the United Religions zone," an area he says he wants to create. The Vatican has condemned URI for syncretism, which is the blending together of elements of all religions.
Absolutely no way this is true.
Just more reason to be ever in prayer.

Wrong, servitude to a thought or an organization that thinks for you is terrorism with a willful victim. In this context, the UN is a terrorist organisation that wishes to shape people's thinking.
The fact that he wishes to make proselytizing illegal means he is directly opposed to freedom of conscience and willing to use force to impose his own version of othodoxy on others. In short William Swing is merely another Fueher wanna be.
Stay well - stay safe - stay armed - Yorktown
People like Swing are just as dangerous as any terrorist.

I wouldn't say Swing is "way out". I've had numerous conversations with Freepers who claim that religion is a big con game and directly or indirectly responsible for most of mankind's problems.
The only reason why The Vatican would be criticizing URI for "syncretism" is that it's not the "syncretism of the Catholic Church" itself. It has been trying to bring all religions of the world "under its own umbrella". And in doing that has been practicing its own brand of syncretism.
This same kind of criticism would apply to Protestants and Catholics, so this is not simply a criticism based upon not liking Catholism in favor of Protestants. There are plenty of Protestant organizations who are at the forefront of this very same thing.
BUT, there is an element that the Catholics bring to this mixture that no one else has. They have a long history of "organization" and "persecution" and a desire to be the "pre-eminent" church over all the world. The Catholic Church considers itself to be the sole representative (organizationally speaking and in the form of the Pope) of Christ on this earth. So, it has continually sought to enforce this understanding over all other churches.
Now, that is not to say that there are not saved people who also attend Catholic Churches. This is to say that the Catholic Church has the infrastructure around the world to do what no other church in this world can do -- which then fits the description in Revelation. I've included Revelation 17 and 18 below for a description of the "whore of Babylon" -- which most likely is formed (in the Tribulation period of seven years) from the "infrastructure of the Catholic Church".
Keep in mind, that no matter how many Christians are in whatever church or denomination or the Catholic Church -- that if the Rapture occurs prior to the beginning of the Tribulation (which is the pre-trib position, of course), then that means that all the churches in the world will be instantly left without any true and believing Christians -- in an instant. That includes the Catholic Church. And while I see right now that there are elements of evil and Satanism in the Catholic Church right now -- it is being resisted by a significant number of other Catholics, who don't want to allow evil practices and Satanism in their church. If these are truly born-again Christians, then their opposition will be gone at a certain time (at the Rapture). This leaves the door wide open for the coming of the False Prophet (who will most likely be the head of this "whore of Babylon" and use the infrastructure of the Catholic Church to be the "worldwide religion" of the day).
We see -- already -- the "moves" being made in the world for this "syncretism" (i.e., there are many ways to god", and "your way is just as good as my way to god."). The groundwork is being laid right now for what is to soon come.
In the following -- in Revelation 17 and 18 -- we see what is said about Babylon, that "adulterous whore" that God speaks about. And the adultery He is speaking about is religious adultery. That's why she is the greatest and grandest whore in history.
We see, as is described down below in the Bible itself, that the "harlot ... sits on many waters...". And the "waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues." This is the world religion of the day over the people of the globe -- the "one world religion" that comes about under the False Prophet of Revelation (who stands alonside of the Anti-Christ).
The "beast" is the last "world-wide kingdom" of the many centuries of this earth. In Daniel they are described and it is further expanded here in Revelation. The last world-wide kingdom (the political/military system) will "morph" into just one man -- who will be the Anti-Christ -- himself. There are seven world-wide kingdoms described in the Bible and one of the verses here says (about the Antichrist) --
Revelation 17:11 11 And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition.
Thus, the whore of Babylon (the worldwide religious system of that day) rides on the beast. The worldwide religious system works "hand-in-hand" with the worldwide (and last) kingdom. But, in the end, the harlot is "consumed" by the "kings" described in Revelation.
Revelation 17:16-17 16 And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.
These political/military leaders of this worldwide kingdom of the day (in Revelation) will throw off the shackles of religion and they will give all their power to the Antichrist -- who at the time -- then declares himself to be god (thus dispensing with the harlot, "the worldwide religious system").
The Antichrist demands worship in and of himself -- being god (as he declares) and this is the abomination of desolation that Jesus referred to in Daniel -- and the "wrath of God" is immediately dispensed upon this earth. That's why Jesus says (at that moment) to flee (don't even go back into your house...). The warth of God has come.
So, the following is a fairly significant part of Revelation referring this this "harlot" and the whore of Babylon.
Revelation 17 1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication." 3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement. 7 But the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 9 Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 10 There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. 11 And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition. 12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful." 15 Then he said to me, "The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. 16 And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. 18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth." Revelation 18 1 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury." 4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. 7 In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, 'I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.' 8 Therefore her plagues will come in one day--death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her. 9 "The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.' 11 And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.' Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What is like this great city?' 19 They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.' 20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!" 21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore. 22 The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore. 23 The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth."
Some significant verses in light of what I'm saying here are --
1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication."
Here the whore of Babylon is contrasted and "set off" (i.e., "compared to") the "kings of the earth". Mystery Babylon is not part of the "kings of the earth or the "political/military system". Mystery Babylon is not a nation or a country or one of the "kings of the earth". She has "consorted" with them.
This description, above, clearly shows the religious nature of Mystery Babylon -- and not being a country or a nation (in this context of Revelation). Mystery Babylon is the "mother of harlots" (and that "harlotry" is spiritual). Further indication of that is that she is "drunk with the blood or the martrys of Jesus".
9 Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 10 There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time.
Mystery Babylon is "riding the beast" and this is a description (i.e., the "beast") the world kingdoms that the earth has had. Mystery Babylon has been present for all the world kingdoms from the beginning. She is the "mother of harlots".
It can also be an allusion to the city of Rome and it's seven hills. However, the primary indication here of "mountains" are the "world kingdoms" -- specifically because of the context of these two chapters and the description given to the last one, being the Antichrist.
At the time of the Rapture, that will instantly bring about the 7-year Tribulation. All Christians of that day are gone. HOWEVER, that is not the end to all Christianity, because there will still be a witness to Christ and God during that time and all the Gospel will be preached to the nations -- at that time (even after the Christians have been taken up). There are the 144,000 from the 12 tribes of Israel, who are sent out into the world to bring in a harvest of souls which has been unknown (in scope and size) up until that time. There will be many brought to the Lord at that time, who have not heard before (and there are many who have not heard, even today).
So, in this context, during this time of the Tribulation, these ten kings "will make war with the Lamb" -- who is Christ. Then follows the description of Christ coming back to earth at the end of the Tribulation (a parenthetical insertion here, to let you know the "outcome").
It says, "the Lamb will overcome them [the ten kings and the Antichrist] for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful."
Those who return with Christ, at His coming are those who were raptured and all those who were killed for His name's sake during the Great Tribulation (which we are told will happen at that time). Thus, these are all the saved ones, who died or were taken up. They are the "chosen and faithful". Christ destroys His enemies at the time of His coming, by simply the word of His mouth.
18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth."
Coming back to the events of the Tribulation, we see -- God has put the purpose in the hearts of those kings, the last world kingdom and the Antichrist to destroy that Mystery Babylon. It's at this time that the Antichrist declares himself to be God. This "great city" which "Mystery Babylon" is used as the figurative description -- will be destroyed. Mystery Babylon is the world religious system and is connected to a city in this world. It remains to be seen what city that is (which has that kind of religious significance [and not military/political significance]). It could very well be Rome, as that's been the place where the Catholic Church has reigned for centuries.
2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury."
This description of it being a "dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!" -- is an indication of the spiritual degradation and harlotry (religiously speaking) which is going on. In fact, even now, some Catholics are decrying the evil and spiritual apostasy and Satanic practices going on in the Vatican. And how much "money" has gone through the "religious systems" of the world?
11 And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men.
These are all items of spiritual worship and assocation. The "bodies and souls of men" pretty well clinches that. It's of religious significance.
Further indications of the "religious nature" and "significance" of Mystery Babylon is that the "in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth." Also, the fact that "the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore" is an indication of the religious nature of Mystery Babylon -- because where else are the brides and bridegrooms primarily found?
And so, we have Mystery Babylon with us from the beginning, but we have yet to see her fullness and completion as we see here in Revelation. These events are coming together now.
The above article is just a reminder of it coming together, in time for the 7 year period of the Tribulation in which Mystery Babylon will be seen, as that worldwide religious system, under the False Prophet, alongside the Antichrist.
AND WHO KNOWS..., this "World War on Terrorism" could also be the "vehicle" for establishing the framework for the final worldwide kingdom. What more of an incentive (for the world) to join together in the face of a "common enemy" of terrorism. The workings of this worldwide kingdom could be in progress now.
Coming to a world NEAR you: One World Government & One World Religion. All this means is Jesus is coming back a WHOLE lot sooner than we thought.
Well, certainly...., it's all "lining up". Even this "World War on Terrorism" is something that can very easily lead into the worldwide governmental/political/military system of that last kingdom. It can be the "infrastructure" that is being laid down and put into place, in time for the Antichrist to show up on the scene and take over. It does all seem to be leading to that end.
In the following, below, I've included some material from Dave Hunt's web site. He has a book, described below. It's about that one-world religious system of the time described in Revelation.
Chapter One of A Woman Rides The Beast:
by Dave Hunt
------------------------------------------------------------------------
He carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness; and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
Revelation 17:3
The most astounding prophecies in the Bible are found in its last book, known as "The Revelation" or "The Apocalypse" and recorded by the Apostle John about a.d. 95. He claimed to have received from the resurrected Christ Himself this series of visions of God's final judgment upon mankind which would close human history. This, the Bible's last and most awesome panoramic view into the future, embodies revelations of climactic eventssome already fulfilled, most still future, but all both incredible and terrifying.
Of all the glimpses of "things which must shortly come to pass" (Revelation 1:1) which John reveals, none is as intriguing and staggering as the vision recorded by John in chapter 17. There we see a fearsome, scarlet-colored beast with seven heads and ten horns. This is not the first time it has appeared to biblical prophets. From the description, it is obviously the same terrifying creature whose description has already been recorded three times. John himself had seen it twice. Daniel saw it as well, 600 years earlier. But in this last glimpse, suddenly something has changed. In its previous appearances in Scripture the beast has always been the total focus of attention, and invariably presented alone. Now, however, it appears with a rider on its back. That anyone would dare, much less be able, to mount such an incredible beast seems beyond imagination. Yet there she sits, quite at ease and obviously in control, astride a world-devouring creature defying description. She? Yes, she. A woman rides the beast!
For 1,900 years the beast itself has been a major focus of attention for students of prophecy. Its identity, the frightening role it will play in the last days, and its ultimate end have been debated through the centuries. In the last 200 years, however, many evangelical Christians have held to a fairly clear consensus: The beast represents both the revived Roman Empire (Satan's worldwide counterfeit of God's kingdom), and the satanically empowered Antichrist who will rule it. Whether that interpretation is correct or not will become apparent in the following pages.
A Woman Who Can't Be Ignored
The woman is a far more enigmatic figure. The leaders of the Reformation were certain that she represented the Roman Catholic Church in general and the pope in particular. That belief, however, has been rejected lately by most Protestants as provocative and demeaning to a body of fellow Christians with whom evangelicals desire to work together in the task of winning most of the world for Christ before the year 2000. In fact, the subject of the woman is generally avoided today as too divisive to discuss.
Still, the woman, so vividly portrayed by John, cannot be dismissed so easily. There she is. Two of the final chapters in the Bible are devoted to her. What will we do with her? It would be dishonest to ignore such an important prophetic figure. The entire Bible is God's Word. We have no more right to close our eyes to Revelation 17 and 18 than to John 3:16.
Unquestionably, the woman is the central figure in these two important chapters, a major player in the drama of the last days. John gives far more attention to her than to the beast she rides. And the fact that she rides the beasta beast of such importance that it literally holds the central position in Bible prophecydemands our special attention. It could not be clearer that the secret of this woman's identity and the role she will play is a major key to understanding biblical prophecies concerning the reign of Antichrist and events leading up to Christ's second coming.
The Most Stunning Prophecy in Scripture
In the following pages we will show that the woman's identity is established meticulously and beyond any reasonable doubt by John himself. We will see that the vision of the woman is one of the most remarkable and significant prophecies in Scripture. The insights John was given by the Holy Spirit concerning this woman staggered him. These insights are no less breathtaking in our day.
Much of John's vision has already been fulfilled in history and can therefore be verified beyond question. Based upon the insights John provides, our identification of the woman will be determined carefully and unequivocally. Although many readers may denounce our conclusions, no one will be able to refute them.
The truth about the woman astride the beast is one of the most stunning prophecies in Scripture. We say specifically "in Scripture" because significant prophecies which have been on record for centuries and were later fulfilled are unique to the Bible. These are not cheap guesses by psychics but involve major world events of sweeping importance and irrefutable historic record.
The vision of the woman riding the beast, as we shall see, provides insights into occurrences which have shaped world history in the past and which will profoundly determine human destiny in the future. She sits, in fact, not only astride the beast but upon the culmination of centuries of related Bible prophecy.
A Question of Credibility
Are we simply sensationalizing John's vision? Why should anyone today be concerned with its interpretation? The question of validity can be settled quite easily. Most prophecies in the Bible have already been fulfilled. It is therefore a rather simple and straightforward matter to examine that record. For the sake of any doubters and to strengthen the faith of those who already believe, we must take a brief excursion into the amazing world of biblical prophecy. We will prove that past prophecies have been impeccably accurate, and that their fulfillment could not be explained by chance. That evidence will assure us that we are not wasting our time by examining prophecies concerning the future. And the woman on the beast does indeed have much to tell us about the future.
That goal accomplished, we will turn our attention to Revelation 17 and 18 and address the question of the identity and future role of the woman riding the beast, confident that the vision will be fulfilled exactly as John reveals it.
Much of the information we will present will not make pleasant reading. Disturbing, stretching the reader's credulity, denied by many, it will nevertheless be the fully documented truth. Moreover, it is a truth which every person on planet Earth, and especially all who consider themselves to be Christiansand most of all, Roman Catholicsneed desperately to understand.
Our sympathy is particularly with sincere Roman Catholics who have such confidence in their Church that they have accepted what the hierarchy has told them without studying history to learn the full truth. It is our hope and prayer that the historic facts we present will be thoroughly checked against the record so that many devout followers of Rome will be able to face the evidence.
Now, I haven't read this particular book, but I can see enough about it, so that I know it's probably a pretty good one. I know about Dave Hunt, though, and he's been "right on" -- on all the stuff he's written about.
The coming one-world government and the one-world religion is true. It's soon to arrive. Just watch around you. These are the beginnings of the building of each of them.
You are correct. The hour quickly approaches.
We live in more exciting times than if we lived at the time that Jesus was here before. Actually, we'll be here when He shows up again... :-)
