[history]
The deadly attacks on the United States in New York and Washington prompted some suggestions that the U.S. must work with Communist China to combat international terrorism. This is a badly misguided proposal that merits a hasty burial. Given the resolve the Bush administration has displayed toward China to date, it is unlikely to fall into this trap.

Let's not make the same mistakes we have made in the past. Just because someone is fighting (or even more ludicrous just verbally supporting us, e.g. Libya) on our side does not they are our allies or friends. For example, Soviet Union during World War II, China in the Cold War, took advantage of us.

I will not be surprised if China has played a role in the September 11th attacks. It is certainly is in their strategic interest to have us distracted from their attempt to take Taiwan.

I'm worried about that, myself. Now would be a perfect time to launch a submarine blockade against Taiwan.

I'm afraid that Sen. Helms' retirement is going to be a great loss to NC and the nation.

Jesse Helms has been a solid rock for our country. Even the liberal media seem to recognize his quality and have backed off their accusations of right-wing extremism, although that may just be because they see him leaving soon.
I can't think of another senator in recent years who would speak out with such firm, temperate, knowledgeable honesty on a subject that most politicians would rather pretend they don't see.
