[history]
The day after the terrorist attacks last month, Eliza Gauger, 17, of Bellingham, Wash., took five minutes to sketch out an idea that flashed into her head. Now, the high school senior's picture titled "Mommy Liberty" is showing up all over the place -- on the Internet, in newspapers, on T-shirts and even on tote bags and mugs.

Thanks! And you haven't even seen me in it. Oh. You mean the picture. It's a great picture. And she's only 17. She must have very wise parents. When her peers are trying to be trendy and crying out for no war, she not only has common sense, but the courage to stand up for what she believes. Something rare today.

Nice to see someone in High School with common sense.I'd give the High schoolers a hell of a lot more credit than the college kids any day of the week. I'm in the college age range, my kid brother just got out of high school. I hear alot more of the 'give peace a chance' sh!t from my piers, while his crew are resounding with 'just give me the gun and point the way' and 'fight, bleed, kill and die for my American brothers'. This post gen-x group seems much more raw and honor driven than their predecesors. At least around here anyway.

I think that picture is really on it's way to becoming a new American icon....
