Guns: Kids speak out on gun safety (4th Graders-Barf Alert)

We are the kids from Mrs. Akers 4th grade class at Eads Elementary school. Our topic is gun safety. We think that the government should be a lot stricter when people want to buy guns. People should not have guns if they have young children, teens, or people who have a drinking problem, or a drinking record.

At schools they should have gun detectors or a policeman or security guard walking around at all times. Children need to be educated about the harm that guns can cause. If we teach this at a young age, we believe that children will be less likely to touch and play with these deadly weapons.

Guns are way too powerful and loud. They can blow out your ear drums. People should not have guns for personal pleasure or hunting. These days we have plenty of food. There is no reason people have to hunt with guns. It is cruel to animals and it should not be a sport. Many accidents could happen with hunters and guns.

If guns are used for personal pleasure anyone can get one, robbers and kids. These days kids like to play with Beebe guns. They can be very dangerous. On T.V. people use guns, kids see that and say “I want a gun like that.” Parents then go out and purchase toy guns for the children. This can teach children that toy guns are like real guns, and it takes away from the severity and danger that real guns can cause. Toy guns are not a good idea. Guns are not toys, and therefore, they shouldn’t be made into toys.

Metal detectors should be installed in almost every building. These days people are getting shot and robbed in drug stores and office buildings.

The government should be stricter about people buying guns, and getting gun licenses. People should only be sold guns it they have a license. You should be 21 or older to buy a gun licenses, and you should have to prove that you are a responsible adult.

We believe that in order to stop violence committed with firearms, the current “gun laws” must be written properly and then strongly enforced. There must also be mandatory sentencing by judges when someone is convicted of committing a crime while armed with a firearm, or any other violation of the law. Also, owners must be educated in proper handling and storing of firearms before being allowed to purchase or possess any firearm. We also believe that only police should be able to sell guns and not for profit. This way the criminal records are right on hand, and if it is not for profit, no one will be selling weapons to people just to make the money. Then, ban all second-hand sales. This should decrease the number of accidental deaths attributed to firearms. Now you have heard our statement, and we hope we’ve helped make a difference.

Yes it is what they are taught. Since they did this as a class I'd guess they all mindlessly signed onto it with the teachers endorsement of course. I noticed they got a slap in on hunters and killing animals. Very PC of them to do that. They let the cat out of the bag because most of the big antigun folks spew the crap that they only want to curtail handguns and aren't interested in spoiling hunting or sport shooting. I've known they were full of BS for years when they start saying that crap.

The truth is these socialist don't want anyone to have a gun except for cops or military. The rest of us can take our civil liberties and shove em. Well the NEA and public schools can go to hell!!

A fourth grade class wrote this paragraph? It's obvious the author of this portion is different from the part preceding it. I'd be interested in knowing whether the teacher offered a "helping hand".

The title says "gun safety", but all the article talks about is "gun control".

The kids should be demanding the proper way to shoot, carry, and store a gun. Somehow, I get the feeling that any kid asking for such things would be suspended under the schools "zero tolerence" policies.

4th graders don't talk like what was described in this article. They are acting like a parrot for the teacher and are just repeating what they have been told.

A Bang bang is what my 2yr old calls it and knows not to touch one if he every sees one.

Socialist propaganda worked well with these children.
If I had a kid in this school, they wouldn't spend another day there after this "statement".
And I'd be very vocal about why.

That last paragraph wasn't written by any 4th grader.

How many 4th graders are aware of mandatory sentencing?
What the heck is going on?

If I were a parent, I would pull my child out of this school.

What exactly does this have to do with real education?

Johnny can't read, write or add to save his life, but he sure knows that guns are really bad.

God help us.

No 4th grader "wrote" this. That's for sure. The last thing on a kid's mind that age is "gun control"...sounds like the teacher wrote it and got her little favorites to sign it for her.
