17-Oct-2001 -- EWTN News Brief FEDERAL COURT UPHOLDS SOUTH CAROLINA ABORTION RESTRICTIONS
COLUMBIA, South Carolina, (CWNews.com) - A federal appeals court on Friday declined to issue an injunction against new regulations on abortion in South Carolina. The Center for Reproductive Law and Policy had filed suit against the state, saying the regulations are burdensome for abortionists and undermine access to abortion. The regulations were passed in 1996 and took effect in August. They regulate all aspects of the abortion business and acknowledge that abortion is different from low-risk medical procedures performed on an outpatient basis. They also require that a list of counselors, including clergy and psychologists, be provided to patients. The appeals court will hear arguments in the case next year, and the decision not to apply an injunction means the law will remain in effect for that time.

I remember as a child learning that the abortion industry claims its just another medical proceedure. Then I learned that the abortion industry, at least in Minnesota, where I grew up, wasn't regulated like most medical industries were. I found that tremendously confusing at the time. I have long wated for basic legislation requiring them to
at the very least submit to the normal regulations governing surgery as dangerous as theirs is. If we can't outlaw it entirely, there is absolutely no good reason, whether you are pro-life or pro-choice for the woman, to oppose the reasonable safety regulations placed on any other type of surgery. Yet it is a constant struggle to get this done, which makes it perfectly clear that these people are not pro-choice, but pro-death, whether it be the baby or the woman who dies on the operating table.
If anyone can provide further details of this law, I would appreciate it.

One small victory at a time...this is great news! I, like you, just don't understand how people who claim to be all about the "health of the woman" could be so contradictory about health standards that apply to the abortion industry.

Bump for life.

I remember reading/hearing about SC doing this in 1996; I've often wondered how it was working for them.
Yes it is true that little regulation is put on these abortion mills, often it's harder to open a tatoo shop. And as I understand it most of them can even deal with a serious problem that could result from these dangerous, very dangerous procedures - they have to ship you off to a hospital, but usually tell you to go home and "rest" first. If you can stomach it, the vacuuming is done "blind" they just keep searching around in there until they find the baby - which is why you have to be so many weeks along to have the procedure done. Many times neither the patient or doctor knows that the uterus is damaged until years later when problems arise during a later pregnancy.
When they are indoctrinating the children in the public schools about their "choice" they should tell them the truth about what goes on. If people knew the truth ... well ...
Remember only half the patients come out alive.

Praise God. We could sure use some good news! Now, if they will just allow it to be regulated out of business . . .
To: antidisestablishment
Their protests to the contrary while they are busy enacting the latest round of OSHA or EPA rules, the liberals fully understand the fact that regulations are often fatal to a business competitiveness. Why else would they fight these so hard.

There seems to be a "pro-choice" gremlin messing with the Pro_life bump list. ;-)
When replying to this thread, I filled in the To: field with the list name "Pro_life". After I pressed the Preview button, the contents of the To: field had been changed to "pro-life" ("P" changed to lowercase and the underscore changed to a dash), and an * didn't appear before the name of the bump list. Then, when I went to the page that lists all of the bump lists, I clicked on "Pro_life" and was told there were no posts to this bump list. Whazzup?

It's wonderful to see a Federal Court refuse a pro-death injunction. In my state (yes, the one that brought you Ed Gein, Dahmer, the bizarre Madison school board decision banning the Pledge of Allegiance, the most restrictive((read that unconstitutional, in my humble opinion)) laws concerning peaceful Pro-Life activities, etc. etc. etc.) the pro-death movement lost a battle in the courts and obtained an injunction before the ink was dry on the decision.
P.S. I read today that a Kenosha probation agent has been charged with initiating a sexual affair with a friend's 9 year old son when she was 19, an "affair" that has lasted 10 years and produced 3 children.
PLEASE believe me that Wisconsin residents are religious, caring, honest, generous, wholesome, moral people. I know we have had several nationally disseminated incidents to the contrary, but please understand that these incidents are atypical.
And if you don't believe me, you can ask my wife Billy Jean Bobby Sue, she'd be glad to hear from you and it is her 12th birthday. Don't send letters because she can't read or write yet but she talks on the phone real good. (Pseudo hillbilly sarcasm off)
