Hijackers Told Passengers They'd Land Plane Safely
Boston Herald ^ | October 17, 2001 | Doug Hanchett

Posted on 10/17/2001 12:13:36 PM PDT by SamAdams76

The kamikaze hijackers who began the wave of domestic terror Sept. 11 duped those on board American Airlines Flight 11 into not revolting with a chilling lie: that the plane would land safely as long as nobody made ``any stupid moves.''

``We have some planes,'' the hijackers said in words unwittingly broadcast to air-traffic controllers. ``Just stay quiet and you'll be OK. We are returning to the airport. Nobody move, everything will be OK. If you try to make any moves, you'll endanger yourself and the airplane. Just stay quiet.''

Transcripts of cockpit communications from three of the four hijacked flights were published by the New York Times yesterday, shedding new light on the tempest of carnage and confusion that was unfolding that morning.

But only on Flight 11 could the hijackers' voices be heard - either because one of them hit the wrong button while trying to talk to the cabin or because cockpit crew members had the presence of mind to flick on the radio microphone.

In perhaps the most stunning revelation, the Times also reported that at least two of the commandeered planes were traveling in excess of 500 mph just prior to impact, more than double the speed allowed by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The first transmission from Flight 11, which left Logan International Airport bound for Los Angeles, came at 8:24, 11 minutes after air-traffic controllers lost radio contact with the pilots. The second came nine minutes later, again with the terrorists offering bogus reassurances.

``Nobody move please,'' said the hijackers. ``We are going to go back to the airport. Don't try to make any stupid moves.''

Fourteen minutes later, the hijackers turned the Los Angeles-bound 767 into a massive missile, slamming it into the north tower of the World Trade Center.

Ironically, controllers asked United Flight 175, another flight from Boston that would be used to level the south tower of the World Trade Center, to look for Flight 11 when the latter stopped responding on the radio.

``We have him,'' answered Flight 175. ``Uh, he looks . . . about 29, 28,000 (feet).''

``United 175, turn . . . to the right. I (want to) keep you away from (Flight 11).''

A few minutes later, Flight 175 told another group of air-traffic controllers that it ``heard a suspicious transmission (from Flight 11) on our flight out of Boston. Someone keyed the mike and said, `Everyone, stay in your seats.' ''

Five minutes later - and just seconds before Flight 11 crashed at 8:47 a.m. - Flight 175 deviated from its normal route. As it continued traveling south, rather than turning west, controllers stopped receiving transponder signals from the plane. It was around that time that other pilots flying in the area began to notice the World Trade Center was on fire.

``Anybody know what that smoke is in lower Manhattan,'' asked one pilot.

``(It's) coming out of the top of the World Trade Center building, a major fire,'' said another.

Seven minutes after the transponder on Flight 175 was shut off, a controller in New York asked another unknown controller ``Do you see (Flight 175) anywhere? . . . We may have a hijack here.''

Radar readings would later show the plane was descending at 550 miles per hour when it crashed into the World Trade Center 17 minutes later.

Four minutes after Flight 175's transponder was shut off, controllers received the last radio communication from American Airlines Flight 77, headed from Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia to Los Angeles. Five minutes later, at 8:56 a.m., the transponder signal was lost.

Over the next 20 minutes, controllers and American Airlines officials tried in vain to contact Flight 77. At 9:25, a controller notified the plane heading back toward Washington, D.C. Eight minutes later, the Secret Service was notified and Vice President Dick Cheney, who was in the White House, was quickly ushered into an underground bunker.

At 9:36 a.m., the plane embarked on a 360-degree turn as it passed the Pentagon on auto-pilot. According to the Times, a military transport plane that was asked to ``intercept and identify'' the plane reported it was ``moving low and very fast.'' It slammed into the Pentagon two minutes later traveling at ``well over'' 500 mph.

Transcripts of cockpit communications from the fourth hijacked plane that crashed - United Flight 93 from Newark to San Francisco - weren't released. But crew members were aware of Flight 175's hijacking because United officials sent a text message to 15 United flights saying ``Beware, cockpit intrusion.''

Someone in Flight 93's cockpit later confirmed that the crew received the message.

The warning did no good, however.

A source who heard the radio transmissions between Flight 93 and controllers told the Times that about 9:28 a.m. ``a very noisy sound of a confrontation was heard on the frequency, very garbled, but with some discernible phrase like, `Hey, get out of here!' ''

According to the Times, controllers also reported hearing Arabic being spoken.

Six minutes later, the plane began climbing without authorization and then veered off its normal course near Lake Erie, doubling back toward Washington, D.C. Around this time, passengers began making cellular phone calls from the plane, with two vowing to thwart the hijacking.

Just before 10 a.m., transponder and radar contact was lost. At 10 a.m., a controller said, ``Think he is at 7,500 (feet).''

Flight 93 ultimately crashed in a field in western Pennsylvania at 10:06 a.m., probably because of passengers rushing the cockpit.

Didn't see this posted here and it does seem to contain some new information.

Huh? This must be a mistake. Every flight I've taken reached speeds of about 550 mph. Otherwise it would take over 10 hours to fly cross country.

Uh, just exactly how fast does the FAA allow you to fly just prior to impact?

No, you are mistaken. 511 MPH is the speed of sound. MACH 1. Passenger jets usually cruise between 3-400 mph. I do not believe any of those jets was even capable of breaking the sound barrier.

Well, below 12,500 or so you're not supposed to exceed 230 or so knots (roughly 250 MPH) without a waiver.

Other sources are saying that the hijackers who were "muscle", ie, crowd control, didn't even know what the real plan was. They supposedly were told it would be a traditional sit in the runway and issue demands type of hijacking.

Not at the altitude they were at. I was an air traffic controller, and if I remember right, airspeed above 250 knots is prohibited at low altitudes, close to inhabited areas.

What they mean is double the FAA 250 knot speed limit below 10,000 feet. 500+ mpph is indeed the cruising speed of most airliners. These guys just descended from 29,000 feet without slowing down.

Then how is it possible to go from Boston to Los Angeles (a 3,000 mile trip) in just six hours? I've made that trip many times and it usually runs six hours and sometimes even less than that. That translates to at least a 500 mph speed and I know that the pilot often announces a 550 mph crusing speed (usually around 35,000 feet).

Sorry all, my bad, it's actually around 711 mph...

No, speed of sound is roughly 1,100 feet per second at sea level, roughly 760 MPH. Commercial airliners stay in the regime under 650 MPH for fuel econ and controllability reasons, usually about 550-600 MPH.

Of course this is airspeed, which is usually different than ground speed. A good tailwind can lead to a prodigious ground speed. I recall a flight out of NC to Atlanta one day I measured the ground speed as 800 MPH - this was pretty exciting because we were lower than normal. Flying the other way would have been a long trip....

Obviously, The Terrorists Were Breaking The Law! Here's the FAR:

§91.117   Aircraft speed.

(a) Unless otherwise authorized by the Administrator, no person may operate an aircraft below 10,000 feet MSL at an indicated airspeed of more than 250 knots (288 m.p.h.).

(b) Unless otherwise authorized or required by ATC, no person may operate an aircraft at or below 2,500 feet above the surface within 4 nautical miles of the primary airport of a Class C or Class D airspace area at an indicated airspeed of more than 200 knots (230 mph.). This paragraph (b) does not apply to any operations within a Class B airspace area. Such operations shall comply with paragraph (a) of this section.

(c) No person may operate an aircraft in the airspace underlying a Class B airspace area designated for an airport or in a VFR corridor designated through such a Class B airspace area, at an indicated airspeed of more than 200 knots (230 mph).

(d) If the minimum safe airspeed for any particular operation is greater than the maximum speed prescribed in this section, the aircraft may be operated at that minimum speed.

No defense; lying, or hypocrisy, is officially unislamic. Here's an excerpt from the Internet's Islamic Ann Landers:

Question: What is hypocrisy and how dangerous is it for the Muslims?

Answer: Praise be to Allaah. Hypocrisy is a serious sickness and a great crime. It means making an outward display of Islam whilst inwardly concealing kufr. Hypocrisy is more dangerous than kufr (disbelief) and the punishment for it is more severe, because it is kufr mixed with Islam and its harmful effects are greater... [deletion]

If the kuffaar are obvious enemies from without, then the hypocrites are hidden enemies from within. They are more harmful and more dangerous to the Muslims, because they mix with them and know their situation. Allaah has decreed that the ultimate destiny of the kuffaar and hypocrites will be in Hell:

“Surely, Allaah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell”[al-Nisaa’ 4:140 – interpretation of the meaning]

But because of the seriousness of the harm they cause, the hypocrites will be in the lowest level of Hell, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth (grade) of the Fire”[al-Nisaa’ 4:145]

Because the danger posed to the Muslim ummah by the kuffaar and hypocrites is so great, Allaah commanded His Messenger to strive against them:

“O Prophet (Muhammad)! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be severe against them; their abode will be Hell, and worst indeed is that destination..."

Uh oh, maybe the bad guys are just "terrorists", rather than "islamic terrorists".

I don't know why the liberals are so upset about lying. They've told us repeatedly that it's OK to lie.

"They lied?"

It certainly fulfills the criteria: they were Moslems and their lips were moving.

Then how is it possible to go from Boston to Los Angeles (a 3,000 mile trip) in just six hours?

It's simple. You see, time slows down for the traveller at high speed. So, while the rest of the country has aged 12 hours, you have only aged 6 hours.

And no, I'm not a physicist. I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

You're correct. Only 8 of 19 knew the real mission (the so-called pilots). The other 11 had no clue that they were going to meet Allah. This concept is commonly referred to in our government as "need to know".

WHY ARE WE NOT ALLOWED TO LISTEN TO THE TAPES?

This is the classic cover up which I have been telling everyone about for five years. It used to be (up until about 15 years ago) that they would play the actual audio tape for the public to hear. Within a day or two of the 'accident' or whatever, we would actually hear whatever there was to be heard.

Recently, I believe starting around the time of the ValuJet "crash", WE HEAR NOTHING. Always the "authorities" clamp down on all info. They tell us that the tapes will need to be "annnaaalyzed" - isn't that a special word? They spend a month to aannalllyze (as Dr. Savage would say) the tapes. What analysis? Just play the mutha-***** tape and let the public hear what happened!!

THE FACT THAT WE WILL NEVER HEAR THESE TAPES SHOULD TELL ALL THAT THERE IS A COVER UP. IN THIS CASE, I BELIEVE THAT THE COVER UP HAS TO DO WITH THE MILITARY SHOOT DOWN OF FLIGHT 93. The authorities have decided that it is better to create heroes rather than simply acknowledge that they were forced to shoot the plane down.
