Official blames a fortified U.S. border for rise in Mexican cocaine use The Associated Press 10/17/01 9:54 PM MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Increased security along the U.S. border after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington has made it harder for smugglers to move drugs onto American soil and increased cocaine use in Mexico, a police official said Wednesday. Crime Prevention Director Pedro Jose Penaloza told a news conference that cocaine smugglers, afraid to cross a fortified U.S. border, have begun selling drugs at rock-bottom prices in the central states of San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, Queretaro and Guanajuato. The states have long been considered part of the "smugglers' bridge to the U.S.-Mexican border," Penaloza said. Penaloza said Mexico has become so saturated with cocaine that drug dealers in some locales are offering the usually high-priced narcotic at prices that are cheaper than the normal street price of marijuana.

Just another sign of the times. Unexpected side effects always follow draconian measures, which always follow crises, which always precipitate draconian responses... I never would have anticipated this one, though.

Too damn bad. Now if we will just start rounding up all illegals and shipping them out, we might get somewhere.

When they can't get it across the border, they just push it right up their nose. Doesn't that just break your heart. LOL

Hmmm. Very interesting. Allow me to make a reasoned, logical response to this article.
HahahaHAHAhahahAHAHAHAHAhahahahHAHAHA(*gasp*)HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA(*breathe in*)HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Whew! That felt good! Havn't had a laugh like that one in a long time!
Now if we can stop the illegals coming in like we have apparently stopped the drugs from coming in then maybe, just maybe, our country might have a chance at having a future!
In the meantime, Mexico can enjoy the ravages of a cocaine epidemic. Just wait until "free-basing" gets popular down there. It's gonna be a hot time in the old town real soon now. Wait until they discover all of the joys of "crack", with crack addicition, crack violence, crack babies.

LOL, thanks for the ping. It's amazing what we're at fault for these days.

So much for congressional claims that military on the border is just not a good option, won't work, move on, nothing to see here.
To: Migraine
Boo hoo, they can't get across the border so they have to snort their own stash and sell it to their own people. Grab a violin and sing me a sob story.
To: Cool Guy
Aw, i feel so sorry for those poor people using cocaine. We must relax the border restrictions immediately! (sarcasm off)

When they can't get it across the border, they just push it right up their nose. Doesn't that just break your heart. LOL These people can't have a lick of common sense. I can't believe anyone with half a brain, would be snorting any white powdery stuff right now, considering all the anthrax going around. I really could care less, however.

No kidding Mark, thought about the white powder angle. Wonder if a laced kilo that made it's way to Berkeley would drive the terrorism point home to the "Reach Out" crowd. I don't hope for this by the way.

No, I don't hope for it either, especially because I am only 42 miles from Berkeley. I do, however, know a few people from Berkeley, and the ones I know, think those lefties are a bunch of blithering idiots.

It is kinda amusing considering some if not most of these Mexican authorities just keep a blind eye to the smuggling into the US. I guess they need to outlaw the stuff and impose stricter sentencing and surveilance like they have forced us to do.
