DNA Links Anthrax Letters to Iraq -- The Smoking Gun?
Fox News, Carl Cameron, Morton Kondracke, Hugh Hewitt | 10-19-2001 | Sabertooth

Posted on 10/19/2001 5:34:42 PM PDT by Sabertooth

I just heard Hugh Hewitt and Morton Kondracke talking on KRLA 870 in Los Angeles about the anthrax letters.

Kondracke said that Carl Cameron reported on FOXNews today that the strain of anthrax found in Florida, New York, and Washington D.C. was identical to that sold by a Virginia firm to Iraq in the 1980s.

If this is true, this would be a rather conclusive smoking gun implicating Iraq as the source of the recent anthrax attacks in this country.

I don't get FOXNews myself. Can anyone confirm?

Unless the Virginia firm sold it to people in the us or still has a bit of the culture for its people. This is not proof yet.

I don't think so. If this strain were sold to others, you have no "smoking gung." But even if this strain were sold only to Iraq, all it proves is that the strain of anthrax went through Iraq. It may well have been "acquired" from them, willingly or otherwise, by other parties who chose to develop and use it.

sounds like christians in action. one would think that anyone
on that level would have put a marker in each batch. THAT would
be conclusive evidence.

"Unless the Virginia lab sold it to someone else." Great point that would be overlooked because of the understandable desire to light up Iraq.

These labs keep records so track down the buyers and see where it leads. Maybe to Iraq, maybe someplace in the states, Maybe both.

One can only hope that this is the case. Iraq is unfinished business, big time. GW can finish what dad started before Iraq was cut loose to develop whatever evil they wished for 8 years or so...

Hey, I’ve got an idea. The news said that a couple of the postal workers at the post office that handled the envelopes were infected. Let’s suppose that the guy who put the stuff in the envelopes had himself protected, either by wearing special clothes or by taking antibiotics. But do you suppose some of that stuff could have gotten into the air at the place where he loaded the envelopes? If so, we should see some other people infected in the area where he loaded the envelopes and also maybe in the areas along the trail where he carried the envelopes to the P.O. box, even if he loaded the stuff into the envelopes inside a special laboratory “clean room”. If he did that, then the FBI might be able to track him to a clean room at some East Coast lab.

Just give it a little time. I’ll bet the FBI gets the guy.

Just heard Chris Ruddy on Michael Savage. He says that this is a weaponized version of anthrax. It consists of just spores. Also from only one letter to Daschle 31 people were exposed to it. This is definitely weapons grade. It is a fine powder.

So why is the government lying? Probably they do not want the country to panic.

Where does the trail lead to? Untimately the the country that supports all of the terrorist nations--Russia.

I would hope that the weapons inspectors from the UN would have some samples from the stock piles in Iraq. Of course, we are talking about the UN however.....

Don't know how much evidence you want, but here's what we know for sure...

Taken as a whole, while one can't absolutely rule out domestic terror in the anthrax attacks, there is no eveidence pointing to a domestic perpetrator.

ALL of what we currently know points to foreign terrorists, with a probable connection to Iraq. This genetic connection further seals the verdict.

If just handling the envelope infected 2 postal workers then more more people should turn up with anthrax. More thatn 2 people had to have handled the letter and the letter had to have come in contact with more mail. No telling who might be contaminated. I really don't think it is a right winger sending the anthrax. They could just want it blamed on rightwingers. I just barely recall an anthrax incident involving Arkansas and Clinton.

Given the long track record of Newsmax for incompetent reporting and egregious, obvious errors of fact in their articles, I think it's a bit more likely Chris Ruddy is an idiot than the government is lying.

Whether it's Iraq with the approval of Russia or without, one thing is for sure our nation is being tested by some very bad elements to see how we respond. Right now I'm afraid we are a little shaky. I hope Bush is laying down the gauntlet behind the scenes with the Russians and the Chinese that we will be destroy those that are trying to destroy us!

We need to take a STRONG OFFENSIVE instead of sitting back and JUST REACTING in this WAR!!! SO FAR ALL WE ARE DOING IS REACTING!!! THIS IS A WAR!!! WE CAN'T AFFORD TO SIT BACK AND DEFEND!! WE MUST BE MANY STEPS AHEAD OF THE EVIL DOERS OR WE WILL SUFFER GREATLY!!!

It seems so.

When they talk about it not being weapons grade -- we get conflicting reports -- they are referring to it not being the most virulent strain or not being resistant to certain antibiotics.

But the fine powderization is more important in determining if it comes from a biowarefare lab.

Also, because it lodges in tissue when inhaled, it can sit dormant for 60 days or so, then start to grow. When that happens the toxins are released and the disease kicks in.

We have a ways to go to really know the extent of exposure.

In the 1979 Russian accident where 66 people who lived near a USSR bio-warfare lab died, it was estimated that as little as 4 milligrams was released, with the high end being one gram.

That's not much.

One good thing learned in that accident -- only adults, usually older, died. No children or young people.

So, ah, what is the weather report for Iraq today? Like maybe 3,000 degree temperatures, with 900 MPH winds, and cloudy. Mushroom cloudy, that is.
