Alien Invasion By John J. Miller & Ramesh Ponnuru |
|
In a slower news cycle, this might have been front-page news. Ten years ago, the illegal-alien population was estimated at 3.5 million meaning that it grew by about half a million per year through the 1990s. (The actual annual inflow was probably even larger; CIS estimates that perhaps 700,000 illegal aliens enter each year but that 200,000 of them either return home or legalize their status.) At least three of the September 11 terrorists were illegal aliens, according to INS commissioner James Ziglar and authorities still lack complete information about several others. "If a Mexican day laborer can sneak across the border, so can an al Qaeda terrorist," says Steven A. Camarota of CIS. "While the vast majority of illegals are not terrorists, the fact that hundreds of thousands of people are able to settle in the United States illegally each year indicates that terrorists who wish to do so face few obstacles." The new Census Bureau report also shows that the U.S. foreign-born population, comprised mainly of legal immigrants, grew from slightly less than 20 million in 1990 to more than 31 million in 2000 an increase of 57 percent. During the height of the Ellis Island years, from 1900 to 1910, the foreign-born population grew by only 31 percent. "No nation in history has every attempted to incorporate and assimilate 31 million newcomers into its society," says Camarota. "The experiment is by no means over. If policy remains unchanged, at least 13 million legal and illegal immigrants will likely settle in the United States over the next ten years." Changing that will require strong public support. In June, it simply wasn't there: 42 percent of Americans believed immigration levels should remain as they are, and 41 percent thought they should be decreased, according to a CNN/USA Today poll. The latest survey, however, shows a dramatic shift: 58 percent now say immigration levels should be decreased and only 30 percent say they should go unchanged.

Sincerely, a thoughtful liberal.
8 million motor-voter democRATS!
Everyone knows that they deal drugs from the house and everyone knows they're here illegally, yet nobody (including the police) does a f**king thing about it. It's enough to make you sick.
Can someone tell me why the police can't take them to the nearest INS and have them deported?

It will NEVER come to that the Hispanics don't have the Political and particularly the Economic Clout to do that. The ones who do have some Economic power are the Assimilated & English Speaking Ones. PLUS us "Gringos" have the Military power & we control the food chain. IF PUSH REALLY CAME TO SHOVE MEXICO and ITS MERRY IMMIGRANTS, would not stand a chance.
In fact for the most part US-Born hispanics DO ASSIMILATE, its just there DAMN parents that don't. SAP is only provided for a fraction of programming, as far as I know ABC only provides it for about 2 Sports Magazines & ABC Nightline. Other networks also provide SAP only for a very few Programmes its really nothing to worry about too much.
As I said so long as US-Born hispanics keep on Assimilating and the vast majority (75%) swtching to English (Which they are), I don't see any real long-term problems for the integraty of out great nation. But as for the Short and possibly to a lesser extent the Mid-Term well things will probably get worse before getting better.
Los-Angeles and many S/Western cities are becoming "Divided" two cities. A rich mostly White or Native Born Assimilated American & English Speaking Part & a Poor mostly Hispanic & Spanish Speaking Part. (EG: Los-Angeles "The Mexican City") the South & East LA are Cesspools just like "MEHICO" and the North/West & Coastal regions are English Speaking & All American. This is happening to Much of the S/West. How Sad, that our nation was divide/segregated by RACE just 30 years, is In parts of the USA becoming somewhat divided by Language. *Clearly the Liberal Idiots have not learnt anything, from our history*
