Editor: Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in the United States, the authors of the seminal 1999 Chinese People's Liberation Army text on 21st Century "assymetrical" warfare, titled Unrestricted Warfare, were interviewed in the September 13, 2001 People's Republic of China-owned Ta Kung Pao newspaper in Hong Kong. The following are excerpts from the interview with the military theorists, Senior Colonels Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui:

The two Chinese Officers who wrote "Unrestricted Warfare" comment on what the collapse of the Twin Towers means to them.

They wrote the book to describe to all third world countries as to how they could all combine their small efforts to Destroy the USA.

Unrestricted Warfare has been translated and is on the internet. Put the title in Google.

They don't seem to be very smart. A little complacency an the element of suprise lead to all of this not the fundimental flaw of weakness or cowardice as these two heve stated here and elswhere.

I hope all the Chi-com military theorists are this stupid. The problem is stupidity leads to war, but at least a war against an enemy that is none too bright.

I suppose that if all of the people in third world countries jump at the same time, then we might feel an aftershock.

They just may do that one day. Thank God for vast oceans and the narrow constriction in Central America.

They wrote the book to describe to all third world countries as to how they could all combine their small efforts to Destroy the USA.

Seems a pretty adequate description of the work in question, from what I can tell -- by report, since the book (apparently) is not yet available in English translation. Based on what I know about it, it seems to be a "recipe book" for cooking up the dreaded "war of all against all." I suspect that PRC is the "silent (and more or less invisible) partner" behind this whole sorry mess.... Ultimately, our adversaries' attack is on an entire people -- members of Western civilizational order, and we are the main target, combatants and civilians alike. FWIW.

Thanks for the post, Slingshot -- and for bumping it along to me. Peace and love, bb.

There is a story of Gulliver and his travels that might apply to this exact situation.

How does one 'tie up' a giant?

With many small strings.

That is the point of all the terrorists in the world when they look at the USA.

Our strength is Not what will protect us. Smart and intelligent guerilla tactics properly applied in hundreds of places in this world will protect us.

We are blessed with an administration that is aware of this and is moving in that direction now.

Our country has been protected by two oceans for centuries. That time is over.

We must now deal with thousands in our streets. Most of them will not be Muslim. They will be home grown. The Muslims will furnish the money for them.

Get prepared for a long conflict with more 'police' powers being used than ever before, for a very good reason.

The U.S. GDP is approx equal to that of the multi- nation European Union.
The U.S. military budget is more than equal to that of the next 15 nations combined. It is more than 7 times larger than Russia's military budget.

So the U.S. could become half the power it is today...and then become half of that and STILL be the richest and most powerful nation on earth.

Of course when you're #1 there are always lots of others trying to knock you off your perch. No surprise. It goes with the territory.

betty boop, look at this site to read the first part of the book.

http://www.intelbriefing.com/if/uw1.htm

To read the second part replace the 1 in the url with a 2.

It is in understandable English. Was translated by CIA and was publiched on this web site. Their analysis is to be read. You will need to have this background to understand somethings going on in Latin America now.

The part that we need to know is that they are working on this 24-7-365. Intently with a plan.

We need to forget about asking why do they hate us. They and many others are coming on our shores and on our streets with intent to take over and destroy us. I am not an alarmist. This is merely what they say. It is time for us to take people at their word and stop electing people in our country that want to reason with our opponents.

This is a time to be sober and thoughtful, not fearful.

Elect good solid leaders on all levels.

**This is just more BS from some PLA general that doesn't know what he's talking about**

Your understanding of this statement and the situation we are in seems very different from any I could have 'imagined'.

Right you are, brother. It's time to cut a deal with Canada and Mexico and control all international airports. Let's keep the barbarians outside the gate!

Given that we are, indeed, the richest SOBs on the planet...

The assymetric warfare theories from that document strike me as a particularly grisly way for the Chinese to commit suicide.

Pure attrition (which, ultimately, is the metric of choice for "total war") seldom (if ever) wins wars. Paralysis and psychological defeat of the enemy are what wins.

However, attacks against civilian targets actually strengthen the will to fight. The Chinese model proposes using these methods. What winds up happening is that they usually encourage the other guy to return the favor with interest. Witness the outcome of Hitler's 1940 Blitz of English Cities: the resulting Combined Bomber Offensive made Hitler's efforts look like a love tap.

If China were to try to apply these methods against America and get caught doing so, the resulting vengeance against the PRC would make Genghis Khan look like a Birkenstock-wearing long-haired unwashed vegan hippe peacenik freak.

In geo-politics one goes from Number One to the back of the line.

The Capability of so many opponents merging to destroy us is now present.

The collapse of the WTC was hardly a victory for CCP rule in China. It was firing a shot at the very institutions that the PRC depends on for its very existance.

Well, Blade Jack. That's one way to read the accumulating evidence. Still, I think you may be misreading current events.

But I do promise to think on what you've said at further length. However, please don't hold your breath for any new "epiphany" from me anytime soon: Thus far, you've provided nothing but an unsubstantiated assertion. Can I see your evidence? best, bb.

It might be good to read their book. The Chinese are in full tilt using their asymetric weapons now. Cyberspace(hacking), drugs, terrorism(some we don't hear about), unbelievable electromagnetic weapons, economic, etc.

You will notice Military was not included in that list. That is like the cresendo of an orchestral movement. The Chinese are using many things 'together' and in concert, not one thing at a time.
