The name of this forum is “Free Republic.” Apparently the use of the terms “republic” and “democracy” is still confused by many. Remember, the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag states that we are a “republic,” not a “democracy.”

God Bless The USA

If only those who seek to destroy democracy could have just a small taste of what it’s really like.... Not the terrorists, who are only in it for themselves. I’m talking about the poverty stricken masses who back the terrorist groups. These are people who worry about which government will be in power tomorrow, and whether they’ll find enough food for the next day. They worry about how they must worship and who they must bow down to. Their daughters are not allowed to attend school, and the women are not allowed to work or to beg, even if they have no other way to support their families. If only these people could know what American freedom is really like....

Picture these masses, coming to America, just as our forefathers did. They found the streets aren’t really paved with gold, but there is an opportunity for every person, from every walk of life to be what they want to be, to have what they want to have if they’re willing to work for it.

There are jobs enough for everyone, and even if it’s not the perfect job for you, it’s a start. It could be a start...

And if you have trouble, there are government agencies to help you get through the tough times.

Imagine what these new immigrants would say when they discovered they can actually live in peace, next door to people of a different faith, and maybe even share a Sunday dinner with them, bowing their heads together to say grace and thank God, Jesus or Allah for the food that their work has put on the table. Food that is fresh and plentiful, grown by our own American farmers.

How would they feel, watching their boys and girls go to school and come home proud of all they have learned. They could join with parents of children of all nationalities and watch them play together, cheering for whichever child is ahead, and consoling whichever child didn’t quite make the game today.

If only those who seek to destroy democracy could have a real taste of American freedom, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Freedom to choose their own political officials, and Freedom to work to change laws they don’t agree with. If they could only have a small taste...

They’d understand why we are proud to be Americans, and why we are willing to fight to protect the freedom we hold dear, and the land that we love.

They’d see beyond the propaganda spread by those unable to see beyond what they call excessive consumption.

They’d see that we aren’t infidels, just people able to worship our God as we choose.

They’d be taking their citizenship oath, joining us in our pledge of allegiance to the United States of America, and joining hands with us as we raise our voices and sing “God Bless America.”

And they’d join us in tears for all that we lost September 11, 2001.

Republic vs. Democracy - U.S. Army Analysis

Many of you have seen the reprint of this document. If you have, it's worth reading again. If you have not, it is worth reading, studying, and reciting to your friends, family, and neighbors. It is copied from Training Manual No. 2000-25 that was published by the then War Department, Washington, D.C., November 30, 1928.

Official Definition of DEMOCRACY

NOTE

Here are four (4) facsimile section reproductions taken from a 156 page book officially compiled and issued by the U.S. War Department, November 30,1928, setting forth exact and truthful definitions of a Democracy and of a Republic, explaining the difference between both. These definitions were published by the authority of the United States Government and must be accepted as authentic in any court of proper jurisdiction. These precise and scholarly definitions of a Democracy and a Republic were carefully considered as a proper guide for U.S. soldiers and U.S. citizens by the Chief of Staff of the United States Army. Such definitions take precedence over any "definition" that may be found in the present commercial dictionaries which have suffered periodical "modification" to please "the powers in office.” Shortly after the "bank holiday" in the thirties, hush-hush orders from the White House suddenly demanded that all copies of this book be withdrawn from the Government Printing Office and the Army posts, to be suppressed and destroyed without explanation. This was the beginning of the complete red control of the Government from within, not from without.

CITIZENSHIP

CITIZENSHIP Democracy:

A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of "direct" expression. Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward property is communistic--negating property rights. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether is be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences. Results in demogogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy

CITIZENSHIP Republic:

Authority is derived through the election by the people of public officials best fitted to represent them. Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with a strict regard to consequences. A greater number of citizens and extent of territory may be brought within its compass. Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobocracy. Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment, and progress. Is the "standard form" of government throughout the world. A republic is a form of government under a constitution which provides for the election of: (1) an executive and (2) a legislative body, who working together in a representative capacity, have all the power of appointment, all power of legislation, all power to raise revenue and appropriate expenditures, and are required to create (3) a judiciary to pass upon the justice and legality of their government acts and to recognize (4) certain inherent individual rights.

Take away any one or more of those four elements and you are drifting into autocracy. Add one or more to those four elements and you are drifting into democracy.

Atwood. Superior to all others.--Autocracy declares the divine right of kings; its authority can not be questioned; its powers are arbitrarily or unjustly administered. Democracy is the "direct" rule of the people and has been repeatedly tried without success. Our Constitutional fathers, familiar with the strength and weakness of both autocracy and democracy, with fixed principles definitely in mind, defined a representative republican form of government. They "made a very marked distinction between a republic and a democracy * * * and said repeatedly and emphatically that they had founded a republic."

WHY DEMOCRACIES FAIL

A Democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of Government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that Democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, always to be followed by a Dictatorship. (Written by Professor Alexander Fraser Tytler, nearly two centuries ago while our thirteen original states were still colonies of Great Britain. At the time he was writing of the decline and fall of the Athenian Republic over two thousand years before.

I have no reason to "flame" you. The contrast between these two articles, linked here mainly to show how our adults, not just our kids, over time are getting "dumbed down," is better said by others here.

Your quote was from Westbrook Pegler, as given in the second article.

Did you know that when we they were counting chads in Florida, after the November, 2001 election, the outcome was a concession speech given by none other than Vice President Gore, who called our government a "democracy" three times in that concession speech? About an hour later, the winner, George W. Bush, also called our government a "democracy," alluding to a reference to Thomas Jefferson. So, you see, a real education process is very much in need.

Please note that another conservative entity, "The Eagle Forum University," also recognizes the problem by now offering a new course "to learn something of our heritage that we didn't learn in school." Phyllis Schlafly is my kinda gal, and I hope her Eagle Forum University much success in this momentous task to teach what was omitted in our public educational institutions.

I wish everyone well who can bring home the important difference highlighted in these contrasting articles.

In both a democracy and a republic the "majority rules," HOWEVER, in a REPUBLIC the opinions of those in the minority are respected, as Patrick Henry implies.

When we are asked for our opinion and express it in speech or in writing, and only then learn that after counting noses we are not among the "majority," most people would tend to remain silent and not express a point of view. It is always nice to be on the popular bandwagon. But our government, a republic, urged people to share their views not hide them under a bushel basket. If everyone was prompted to remain silent, we could just as well have a king, queen, or dictator; and that is not what our Founding Fathers wanted.

Please note that Patrick Henry voted against the U.S. Constitution at first, for he feared loss of states rights; but he accepted the will of the people and supported the Constitution and went on to become the Governor of his own state under the new government. So be it. That is a republic.

Yes, I knew, and I was deeply saddened. I made note of it too on this very forum. I have been railing against this very thing for some amount of time, with seemingly little to no results. From the corner of my eye I occasionally see a brightly colored banner labeled "Republic" waving, but all too often it is dragged down by ravenous beasts, ignorant of the damage they have done.
Yet though I see one banner fall, at the farther periphery of my vision I see another, such as yours, rise to take its place. Stand strong against the ravenous beasts, as they tire, eventually, whilst we may not.
I'll flag you to an article of interest.
