“Excuse me, but I am not allowed to talk”, said nervously in the telephone conversation Daut Redzhepi, better known as commander Leka, and refused to comment “Dnevnik” information that he is responsible for alleged murder of part of kidnapped Macedonians. “Dnevnik” daily yesterday reported that the majority of twelve kidnapped Macedonians were killed, massacred and buried in the joint graveyard, probably near Neproshteno village. That information was based on anonymous sources supported by eyewitnesses’ statements. Macedonian police refused to comment this information Monday, explaining that the question was too sensitive and that there was still hope that the kidnapped are alive, in spite of the fact that there hasn’t been any information about their destiny for a long time.
According to “Dnevnik” sources, group of Albanian terrorists leaded by notorious commander Leka first beat up part of Macedonian civilians. Two of them died as a result of the beating, while others were shot, and their bodies were later massacred. In order to hide awful deed from the eyes of the public, terrorists buried the bodies of killed people in joint graveyard, assumed to be near Neproshteno village, in a place that is out of Macedonian security forces control.
Anonymous source from Albanian political block said to Dnevnik that there were doubts that some of the kidnapped became victims of revenge from one Albanian family. It hasn’t been specified for now whether this has any connection with the killed KLA member Mujdin Aliu, whose monument is in Tetovo village Poroj. The 112-th NLA brigade bears his name in his honor.
There are notions that the same group conducted outrageous and cowardly murder of Macedonian reservists on Tetovo – Skopje road at Karpalak area, as well as the attack on municipal building in Tearce village, which, according to “Dnevnik” daily was coordinated between the leaders of one Albanian political party and commander Leka aimed at making military pressure for further progress regarding NLA members amnesty.
“Dnevnik” daily tried to contact former political NLA representative, but certain boy who introduced himself as member of his office, said that it wasn’t possible since Ali Ahmeti was away on a business trip.
NATO office in Skopje doesn’t have any information on reasons for disappearance of twelve Macedonians, nor on their current location. People at OSCE office raised shoulders as well. “We have no information regarding the case of twelve kidnapped Macedonians. According to the mandate, International Red Cross Committee is in charge of that question. If we receive any information, it shall be revealed immediately. However, we think that the problem with kidnapped Macedonians shouldn’t be used in political goals”, said Harold Shenker, spokesperson of OSCE mission.
International Red Cross Committee confirmed that it hadn’t got any direct contact with kidnapped Macedonians. They pointed out that they were in constant contact with people who could give information regarding the kidnapped, but those reports were highly confidential, and “we don’t intend to reveal it to the media”, said Reto Shtoker, deputy chief of International Red-Cross Committee. Minister of defence Vlado Buchkovski, who visited Tetovo region Wednesday, thinks that it was too ambitious to report through the media any information about people who were kidnapped by force. “I think that not all of the kidnapped are still alive, but we have to see if it is true”, said the minister.
Representatives of various political parties are restraint in giving any comment regarding the indications that fields in Tetovo are hiding outrageous war crimes.
“We hope that those notions are not true. If they are true, it won’t be good at all. It can effect the political situation in all, not only the adoption of amendments”, said Naser Ziberi from Party for Democratic Prosperity (which is Albanian).
The vise president of SDSM didn’t want to give any comments to unconfirmed Dnevnik information, claiming that it is too early for that.

“The International Red Cross Mission has no information as yet about the kidnapped Macedonians from the Tetovo region. We understand the situation of their families and we continue our contact with them, as well as our activities in order to find the missing people,” said yesterday Anique Bouvie, a delegate of the Skopje-based mission of this international relief organization.
The families and the relatives of the 12 kidnapped Macedonians from the area of Tetovo have no new information either as to where they might be, or if they are alive or dead. Gordana Isaveska, the sister of Dimitar Dimovski kidnapped on June 23 this year on the Dzhepchishte-Trebosh road says: “By getting in touch with people, both Macedonians and Albanians, I’ve found out that my brother and most of the other kidnapped people are safe and sound in the forest belt higher up in the mountain, within two hours of the village of Varvara cutting down trees for some Albanian from the village of Rechica. But I still cannot put much credence into these rumors. On the other hand, others have told me that in the area surrounding the mountain village of Setole there is a certain number of fresh graves. No one, however, knows if some of the kidnapped are buried in them, or perhaps some other people.”
Neither the diplomats in Skopje have any information whatsoever regarding the kidnapped Macedonians and Albanians. Our sources say that 12 Macedonians and 6 Albanians are considered unaccounted for since it is not known if they are alive, although some fear some of them might be dead. Diplomats, on the other hand, reveal that until a month ago there had been no information about them and then rumors spread that the NLA would take care of their release. Nevertheless, diplomatic sources say, at the time the Chairman of the Parliament, Stojan Andov, made a rash move by conditioning the parliamentary session on the amendments with the release of 14 kidnapped Macedonians. Ever since then, not a word have been heard about what had happened to these people. Their names, both of the Macedonians and the Albanians, have not been made public. Diplomats used to say some time ago that the matter had been discussed with Ali Ahmeti who swore that he knew nothing about these people.

I remember an interview of a Serb back when they were painted on the TV as evil incarnate. "Why do you fight?" they asked, as if he had invented warfare himself. "I'm fighting Saddam Hussein," he replied. The newsman smiled, as if to say "see folks, he's crazy" and it went to a commercial, the American public had been softened up and was ready to support their man Clinton, every last Democrat and fully 3/4ths of the Republicans were happy to kill these evil Serbs, after all they'd apparently started all the problems of that part of the world single handedly.
After 9/11 what that Serb said made doesn't look so crazy.

We, still a largely european and christian nation, can't seem to bring ourselves to accept that non-european, non-christians might not be 'equal to or greater than' us in the eyes of whichever god might stand in judgement.
We still support mythology about the great goodness of historic American Indians - regardless of any evidence to the contrary.
We still believe that colonialism of the last century provides a free pass for savagry in this one.
We still invest superpowers to brutal tribesmen and pretend that their representatives in the UN are true diplomats and honorable people.
We have already apologised for Colombus, we've wallowed in rumors about Jefferson, we'll likely defrock Washington and nail Santa Claus for hanging around with little kids before we finaly realize it's too late.

All I'm saying is that the Fyromians (Slavs living in a region called Macedonia that has nothing to do with Macedonia as an ethnic category) are not necessarily the good guys here. There is enough blame to go around.
