OUR CUTE LITTLE ET GOES POLITICALLY CORRECT

Hard to believe, folks --- but the "E.T., the Extraterrestrial" was first released in 1982.  Gawd, do I feel old right now.  Anyway --- Spielberg and company are going to release an "enhanced" version of "E.T." in March of 2002.  A 20th Anniversary edition.

Now -- I'll put two pictures here for you to peruse.  One from the 1982 version, the other from the 2002 version of "E.T."  Alongside the pictures some notations to show you that political correctness rules in the re-release of "E.T."

This is the 1982 version.  Whatshisname is racing down the road with ET in his bicycle basket.  Government agents are there to stop him.  It is just about this time that ET causes the bicycle to rise off the ground and fly!  Now, on to the 2002 version of the same scene below.
Same cars, same government agents, same Whatshisname, same bicycle, same ET.  But ... something's different.  See the circle?  Yup, the Fed is holding a walkie-talkie!  Now, look at the picture above.  Guns.  Yup, the "guns are bad" PC movement strikes .... we're told that children would be frightened if they saw guns in the agents hands.

A.) Spielberg has no cajones.
B.) E.T. is one of the most over-rated (IMO) movies of all time anyway, so I don't really care what is done with it. It's still a sappy P.O.S.

Actually, I've never seen E.T.

I was in college when it came out. A group of female friends had seen it and were just gushing about the movie. "It's soooooo cute," said one while the others nodded in approval. "You just have to see it!"

"No, actually I don't," was my response.

And I've stuck to it.

And, yes, I really am that stubborn.

Maybe it's me, but this validates the theory that those who do not live in the "real world" have no immediate concept of what the real world is all about.

Can't wait for the special version of Raiders of the Lost Ark, with the street scene of Harrsion Ford and the Sword welding Arab where he shot him, will be edited to a sword welding Republican who is hugged into becoming a Democrap. The Arab will be played of course by Jim Jeffords.

I'd like to see Spielberg do this with Saving Private Ryan.

If your comment was tongue-in-cheek humor, please disregard the remainder of this post. If you were serious, however......

Just because we think what someone does with their property is stupid, doesn't mean we think they shouldn't have the right to do it, dum@ass. And we have a right to our opinion of it, as well, knee-jerk jerk!

Okay, if there was ever any doubt that Spielberg is a flaming liberal freakazoid, this should dispel it...

I saw ET when I was a kid. I can't recall that the agent with a gun was scary. Heck, I hardly remember this particular scene at all.
My kids saw ET and the scene where he turns ash white scared them and they won't ever watch again!

Do we have any independent verification of this? Sure it COULD happen. But HAS it?

Just my "don't take anything at face value" $.02...

I've never understood why that movie was a success. ET is grotesque looking.
