The remarks of Israel's Ariel Sharon, a warning that Israel would not stand idly aside to let other nations decide its fate, created a firestorm. Lost amidst the uproar was the fact that Sharon had expressed similar views in 1986. Indeed, they were published in the Wall Street Journal. He made the analogy between Czechoslovakia in the 1930's, sold out to prevent war with the Nazis, and questioned the US resolve to stand with its ally.
He later called Secretary of State Powell to express his appreciation for the "special relationship" between the US and Israel. On the Today Show, Wednesday morning, Secretary of State Powell said that the US "treasured" its relationship with Israel, a fairly extraordinary description and a welcome one.
....The reality of US policy is not that it hasn't long demonstrated support for Israel, but that it has also always supported its enemies. A longtime, close observer of this is Dr. Eugene Narrett. He points out, for example, that nearly three-quarters of the $18 billion directed to Israel this past decade actually was spent in Texas, New Mexico and California, in the form of transfer payments to Grumman, Lockheed-Martin and McDonnell Douglas. It would be more accurate to say this was more a form of support for our armaments industry, than Israel. Nothing wrong in that, per se, but consider the amount of arms also sold to its enemies.
When one examines the record of US support for our new coalition of Arab "friends", we discover is that, since 1991, the fundamentalist Islamic regime of Arabia has received twice as much military armaments and equipment as Israel. It adds up to more than $35.5 billion. Then add in the cost US of maintaining the US troops stationed there to protect Saudi Arabia from its Islamic neighbor, Iraq.
Another virulent mouthpiece of hatred directed against Israel is Egypt. It received about $13 billion over the past decade. Other Gulf states such as the United Arab Republics, Qutar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and even Yemen, have received an aggregate of another $11 billion. Mind you, these are, with the exception of Egypt and the last two, oil-rich states.
So, all this talk about how America's "support" of Israel is the "cause" of the attack on this nation is largely without merit because it ignores the fact that much of our support in that region of the world has been directed to its enemies......

YES (do I win?)
Oh, you must have met one of the Neturei Karta. They're nuts. Literally.
Israel opened up military recruitment offices in the USA just this past July. What did they know then about possible coming "Holy Wars" that we found out on and after 9/11?
There is a "mainstream" that covers a number of schools of thought and tradition but there are also both the looney left and right and some completely off the planet.
There is a small, inconsequential sect who are anti-Zionist because they believe there should not be a Jewish State till the Messiah comes and takes them there. You probably met one of those nutters.
Not "recruitment" offices and not only in the USA. Because there are a lot of Israeli's in the reserve forces and they are travelling overseas either on business, holidays etc. offices were set up around the world to help these people get back to Israel in a hurry in time of crisis.
Definately not to recruit people off the street.
Well, sort of. They believe there shoudn't be an Israel, the Jews should live scattered and be "obedient" to the authorities where they are. If I remember, they also believe that the holocoust came about because the Jews were "bad" or not "obedient" enough, and that Hitler had to punish them. The background material I read seemed quite disjointed and confused.
YHWDH
Yes, he has been redeemed by Jesus (THE Lamb of Promise) and therefore has eternal life!!!
Intellectually these type of sects of which the Naturei Karta is the most vocal have still not emerged from the ghettoes of the middle ages.

Thinkin' Gal, You have one fantastic profile page. Everyone should take a look!! I have a question too. It has always been my understanding that the ancient Hebrew alphabet did not have the letter "W". It was, instead, a "V". Is that correct? If so, why do most people write the divine name as YHWH instead of YHVH? |
