Belleville (AP) -- A Belleville man will spend a year in jail for stabbing a puppy to death with a steak knife during an argument with his wife.
Steven Lybarger pleaded guilty yesterday to animal torture. Circuit Judge Milton Wharton allowed him credit for the 52 days he's spent in the St. Clair County Jail since his arrest.
Police say Lybarger grabbed a steak knife during the argument with his wife last month, walked to the back yard and stabbed the family puppy ten times.
St. Clair County court record show that four years ago, Lybarger was accused of dragging a puppy on a leash for several blocks and lifting the dog off the ground by the leash in New Athens. Cruelty to an animal charge was dropped after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of cannabis.

If you can kill an innocent dog your not too far away from sticking that weapon into a human.

This guy seems like a loser all the way around, just wondering if a year is good enough - maybe there should be an animal abuse list so we can see who the freaks are in our neighboorhood :)

This guy seems like a loser all the way around, just wondering if a year is good enough Agreed. Something tells me there's a little violence left in him, and that his next sentence will be rather longer than a year. Even so, this is one year the fine people of Belleville won't have to worry about this particuar goon.

If you can kill an innocent dog your not too far away from sticking that weapon into a human. Exactly. It's what you call a leading indicator. A year to cool his jets is not the least bit unreasonable.

THING kill his children's pet!!???!!
What a vile POS. I hope his wife has the sense to divorce the creep and flee the state while it's safely locked up.

Yes he sounds like an unwanted child in which the world might have been better of if he had be terminated prior to entry into this world. Imagine all the resources spent to raise this unfortunate human being and now he was armed to kill innocent puppies.need to incarcerate him before he does worse, spending more resources....Good argument for abortion, I really didn't see it that way till you pointed it out...

Whatta surprise, animal abuse and cannabis possession. Will it be long before this man is the LP candidate for Prez in 2004?
A freedom fighter standing up for his property rights.

Cruelty to an animal charge was dropped after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of cannabis. Good arguement for decriminalization of murder--drugs too!
To: kaylar
I wonder if he had registered the knife?? Disarm people, had there been no access to the knife the puppy would be alive today!

well obviously this man is a psychopathic conservative or a liberal!

Isn't it odd that a society which has embraced partial birth abortion, and which has killed in the womb 40 million otherwise viable fetuses, feels such revulsion for a "puppy killer"?
Isn't it odd that a news media which has delightedly supported Government-sponsored domestic terrorism such as at Waco, where innocent men, women and children were gassed and barbequed, feels such revulsion for a puppy killer?
Isn't it odd that Government, which has declared the deaths of tens and hundreds of thousands of Serb civilians in support of Al Queda connected, KLA drug, weapon and flesh traders, to be a "price we're willing to pay", would care about a "puppy killer".
All I can say is that Osama Bin Laden is darn lucky he didn't target the New York Animal Pound - Afghanistan would be a glass parking lot right about now.

Dog stabber get's 1 year, mother stabber(O.J. Simpson) walks free. Blind Justice or deaf, blind and stupid justice?
