[history]
Bit by bit, the evidence accumulates, and some conservatives are dismayed at what they see: a Republican administration sending low-key but clear signals that gays are welcomed in its ranks and respected as a voting bloc.
To many gay activists, the Bush administration's overtures are encouraging, though timid. Among staunch social conservatives -- the so-called pro-family lobby -- there is frustration and a sense of betrayal.

And this is why we must repudiate groups such as the "Log Cabin Republicans" at every turn. The Republican Party must stand for decency or it will go the way of the Whigs.

They aren't going to go away. (As much as you and I wish they would.)
Got to do something with them.
If you insult them and chase them all to the Demoncrats, then there will just be fewer voting for the Right and the Right loses more ground.

They aren't going to go away. You have read about what happened to them in Sodom and Gomorah?

Should we be worried if the Taliban defects to the Democrats?

Churches should spend more time trying to convince sinners of the wages of their sinful behavior and not expect the Government to do that job.
It's the most ridiculous thing to expect Bush to waste 1 minute of his time trying to persuade homosexuals to be heterosexuals. That's not in his job description.

I agree about the church but as the article says the administration
"...Decided not to lobby against an amendment approved by the House of Representatives last month that permits domestic partnership benefits for gay employees of the District of Columbia." This is a blatant endorsement of homosexuality.

Both of them want to destroy America.
Kind of like asking:
"Should we be worried if the Real IRA defects to Sinn Fein?"

I'll never understand the wisdom of alienating hundreds of thousands of conservatives to get the support of a couple hundred homosexuals.

When half the populations of San Francisco and Key West turn to stone, then we win. Until then, what?
To: Bartholomew Roberts
Until then, what?Well Bush does not have to preach against homosexuality that is the responsibility of the Church which has done a very poor job overall but I don't think he needs to endorse the lifestyle by any means.

I agree, but where are we to turn? Libertarian?, The Perot Party?, where?
We're kind of stuck. Like Gore had to kiss up to moderates to try to get his leftist agenda realized.
To: truthandlife
Jeepers, you can't even get Methodists or Episcopals to condemn homosexuality and we're debating picking on Bush 'cause he doesn't fight every battle??
To: truthandlife
I think it's more of a deferment.
It wasn't an issue he had campaigned on and it wasn't anything he had stated a position on so he lets the Congress decide for themselves. He's delegating to them.
To: Bartholomew Roberts
It will be troubling and amusing when the Republican party loses the White House and Congress because of short sighted people like you encouraging the party to alienate valid voting blocs. A vote is a vote. I'm not friend of the gay lobby but if we can get 50%+ of them to vote Republican I say go for it. Here's another great idea - alienate Hispanic voters too. I just pray the Republican Party can continue to win elections in spite of Republicans like your ilk.

This is not surprising. The real conservatives warned the Bush supporters about his social liberalism during the primaries.
The party rammed Bush down our throats, so the party deserves exactly what it gets.

Exit polls last fall found only two significant groups with growth possibilities for the GOP - European-American women and European-American gays and lesbians.
All those speeches in Spanish got Dubya no more of the non-Cuban Hispanic vote than Reagan got without pandering. Pandering to blacks also got him no more than Reagan got not pandering. But Bush did unprecedentedly well for a GOP candidate among European-American gays and lesbians (25%) - helping bury Algore in South Florida, where there is a huge gay and lesbian community.
