Same President, Different Man in the Oval Office

WASHINGTON -- The terrorist attacks that reshaped his presidency also changed George W. Bush forever.

Friends and his closest aides say he shows little physical wear and tear from the pressures of the war in Afghanistan and anthrax fears in the USA. But in the 7 weeks since the attacks, they say, he has become more serious and pensive. They also see a newfound calmness in him. He turns even more often to the Bible for sustenance. He's using strenuous exercise as an outlet for stress.

Wonderfully written. God Bless W! May God keep him and his family safe. It's so refreshing to have such a good man in command.

I'm glad he has that job and not me. But he can feel free to call me if he has anything I can do (which is very little).

He depends on his wife's encouragement and is happiest when she's nearby. Laura Bush was in Washington the morning of Sept. 11 while the president was in Florida, and Bush has told friends that he feared that day he might lose her. He returned a few hours early from China a week ago in part because she was in Washington and he wanted to be with her.

Just the opposite of X42 and Hildebeast. Except for rare occasions (photo-opts), they couldn't stand to be close to each other and obviously don't miss each others company now that he's out of power.

This is a wonderful story; such a relief from the Washington comPost, New York Slimes stories.

Great story. I've always said that George W is more like Reagan than his own father, and I believe we are seeing that.

May God keep him and his family safe.

And the Secret Service men who will give their lives, if necessary, to protect him. They need more recognition (not actual photoviews!) during this perilous time.

That really is a wonderful piece. How can all of America not be happy to have such a man, at such a time in history? I guess the answer is - most are!

His irritation was evident in a frown when he had to wear a vivid blue-and-gold silk jacket for a picture with other world leaders during his trip to China.

This sentence speaks volumes to me about the character of President Bush. The divide between him and "b-cup" Clinton (that would be Bill, not his wife) is too vast to even attempt comparison. I think that as time recedes, the pathology that Clinton infected the nation with will be become as an adage; acknowledged infrequently but known to the bone.

Thanks! I read JohnHuang2's post earlier, but I am glad to read something positive again!

That jacket really was a travesty. The only good thing is that Putin looked just as uncomfortable. And Putin and Bush chose blue....the Chicoms had on red jackets.

I'm not sure why, but I got tears in my eyes about three times reading this. George W. Bush = CHARACTER - INTEGRITY - HONESTY - RESOLVE - STRENGTH - FAITH - America is so blessed; so very blessed.

I'm so glad you said that....I wondered if I were the only one tearing up. The idea that he thought about losing Laura that day........Every day I thank God for W being where he is right now and ask Him to continue to guide him.

Great article, thanks for posting it.

As a runner, I admire that four-minute shave off of his three mile run. Wonder what his secret is? ;)

This is a beautiful article!!

God is so clearly working in our President's life, it is breathtaking!!

Half of a million Americans have signed up to pray for him daily, and even more than that are likely doing it. He is experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit through the prayers of God's people. Thank You, Lord, for this man!! Guide and protect him!!

''What I see now is a president who has seized on this crisis and sees this as his mission,'' ...

Not a surprise given that he told his Austin staff when he was a candidate that he believed he was "called" to the job early last year. It's a tough and thankless job, best held by someone who is called - as opposed to most who simply want to be President for their own glory (ala Clinton). And who knows whether he has not attained this position for such a time as this?
