DETROIT -- Soon after the Sept. 11 attacks, a handful of international students withdrew from Michigan universities and enrolled in schools in Canada or returned to their native countries. Afraid their looks or beliefs would compromise their safety, parents asked them to return home or they left on their own. The departure of foreign college students from Michigan campuses hasn't been as severe as at some schools in Arizona, Washington, Colorado and California, where hundreds returned home. But Michigan college officials worry that the continuing fallout of the attacks will shrink international student enrollments this winter and fall 2002, a decline that school officials argue would hurt financially and educationally.

Just in case any of you think there will be a crack-down on foriegn students. The first lobbyist against it will be from universities - paid for by your tax dollars.

Oh no, our DIVERSITY might suffer! Of all things, our DIVERSITY. Then again, exposing future foreign leaders to our way of life is probably the best propaganda tool we have.

International students contribute about $12 billion yearly to the United States.

Sounds like a spit in the bucket, considering this friggin war is going to cost Americans taxpayers at least 50 times that much.

Every nation on Earth (except Britain) paints Americans as the bad guys. Let 'em all stay home!

President Bush announced the crack-down today. Visas will be limited. Let the commie universities do without a few thousand foreign comrades-in-arms.

Do away with tenure and fire all of them.

(Foreign student enrollment in the United States) grew to 514,723 in 1999.

Call me paranoid but is there a chance we have been moled by a half a million foreign airplane pilots, hazardous waste truckers, lab techs, and food handlers who conveniently call themselves "students"?

This is like shooting goldfish in a fish bowl for these people.

The rates for foreign students are THREE TIMES as much as for a US citizen.

Think about how much money the equivalent of 1.5 million college students equals (500,000 students * 3 times regular price) for the universities.

CRY ME A RIVER" Most of the terrorists got into this country on student visa's. How many of these visa's had expired? Stop handing out visa's like candy and keep track of them while they are here. This whole thing is a big INS and State Dept screw up. The State dept hand out these visa's and the INS can't keep track of them once they are here.

Best news I have heard so far and hopefully many more will leave. We need to quit educating our enemies.

But foreign students are not being taxed, like I am, to support their education, at the same time my kids and their friends struggle to find a space in a state university.

I say fill every seat with a qualified citizen FIRST in all state universities; then and only then, open enrollment to out-of-state and foreign students. Period.

The universities need to retool and offer their courses online. The big central campus is heading for the boneyard. MIT will offer nearly all its courses online soon.

A lot of foreign students come to America to study anything, for the privilege of experiencing life in the USA. If the courses and degrees are offered online, that incentive will disappear and nobody will enroll in certain stupid liberal arts courses except domestic leftist losers.

So If we lose all the international students will it mean that the TA will speak English? I recall classes at Arizona State University being taught by Teaching Assistants who did not speak enuff english to answer questions. Also I had friends who could not get TA jobs because they were taken up by international students. The Schools may have a hard time untill they start searving the American public. And for the money, out of state pay as much as foreign students do. In the long run the international student gose back to there own contry and works in industy that compeats with the USA. Maybe fewer foreign students will be a help to the econimy.

Well, maybe we should now have the government pay the universities to teach a few tens of thousands of people Arabic, Pushtu, Farsi and Dari, Urdu, Uzbek, etc.

Since the universities seem concerned above all with getting money, replacing the money they get for and from these foreign student with DOD money might change their political thinking.
