[history]
As American eyes scan eastward across a troubled Islamic horizon of equivocal friends and outright enemies, they should rest their gaze on Turkey, an unfaltering ally, and take heart. Turkey's decades-long fortitude in the service of Western interests and a Pax Americana has garnered meager applause from its allies--and a ton of trouble from its regional rivals. Yet it remains our most dependable resource in the Islamic world, and, as the world's most successful secular Muslim democracy, is set to play perhaps the most critical role of all our allies. We should dance a jig of gratitude for what Turkey has endured for our side up to now, because it points the way to what it could do for us henceforward.

Wall Street Journal catching up. Cnn reporting today USA asked Turkey for troops. However we at FR knew this weeks ago. Glad to see them catching up! Some State Department sort must be setting them straight for the big "news" coming. They should learn to read Turkish and Pakistani newspapers where this is old news.

Welcome to FR! Many on FR have spent considerable time in Turkiye and loved both the people and the country. I look forward to seeing your posts.

Bravo! It is also time for the EU to meet its commitments by extending membership to Turkey now.

I notice the "I hate/Let's Kill All the Muslim" crowd gets real quiet on these threads that show Turkiye's support for the US. I still haven't figured out the difference between the radical Chrisitian holy rollers that want all Muslims obliterated and the radical Muslim's that want to obliterate all the Christians. Talk about calling the kettle black.

Wow. A well written, fact filled piece, that gives one an idea of the SOLUTIONS to the current situation. Was this the NY Times? No, I read the whole article here. The Wash. Post? No it was well written, fact filled and supplied solutions. Must have been the WSJ. (NOT the editorial page)

Some things we'll never figure out. One thing I can say though, is that they all work for the same devil, and to the devil they shall go.

I have not seen any radical Christians calling for the deaths of muslims. I have seen war hounds calling on us to drop nukes, thinking that will make them think twice about more terrorist actions.
