[history]
FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Around 9:30 a.m. Friday, a motel employee at StudioPlus Deluxe Studios found a sealed plastic container in a rest room. The employee thought it was suspicious, contacted his manager, and they called for emergency respose.
Haz-mat teams and firefighters did an initial test on the container and that test came back positive. Then, they did two more screenings and both of those tests came back positive for anthrax as well.

I know, it's just another of a thousand anthrax scares, but this one kinda hits close to home. Hopefully the tests are wrong.

This could be a huge break in the investigation. There is a very narrow window for that container to be placed there. If there was any kind of video cameras around, the perp will be on film.

Among other breaks that this may give in any investigation is that the suspected anthrax may well be a large enough sample to determine how it was made/weaponized. You are correct that if this turns out to be anthrax spores then we have the bug break in the investigation.

Field tests don't test for anthrax..they test for bacteria.
The odds are pretty overwhelming this isn't anthrax.

Yep, someone who has made or received weapons-grade anthrax is going to forget and leave a container of it in the restroom of a fleabag motel in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Suuuuuuuuuuuuure.
A zillion of these field tests have turned out to be bogus, and I'm rather confident this one will, too. As I noted, the field test doesn't really test for anthrax..it tests for bacteria.

Gosh, hard to imagine how BACTERIA would get on a container in a restroom at a motel, though.

Sealed container found in bathroom...sounds wierd. It doesn't make sense for it to be left there sealed if the intent was to contaminate people. It would have been spread around and the container disposed of. I also don't see the guy walking into the restroom, setting his container of Anthrax down, taking a leak then forgetting it as he walked out. Sounds like a false alarm to me.

This could be a huge break in the investigation That was my first thought as well. If this was a sealed container then it sounds more like it was being stored rather than distributed. That would mean a perp could be in the area. I guess we have to wait and see if it is really anthrax but if it is, it could be a big break.
I wonder if the "restroom" was public or part of one of the guest rooms? The story makes it sound like it was public.
