Finally the truth

I am so relieved that finally the true story of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising is coming out. After years of Hollywood blaming the Poles and Poland for everything nasty and bad, one realizes that even the Hollywood can be truthful about the Warsaw Ghetto uprising.

The name of the new game is of course making friends for the Jews and Israel. And in today's world Israel and the Jews in general do need friends. Americans want to establish an independent Palestinian state carving out a chunk of land presently under Israel’s control. . The Arabs are against the Jews, no matter what as they are Semites too. Belgians are tracking Sharon for crimes against humanity. Russians remember Jewish organizations calling their greatest writer Aleksander Solzhenitsyn an "anti-Semite". Ukrainians are still upset by the Israel and our OSI for trying to kill not guilty of charges man John Demjanjuk just to prove a point, that they are always right. Serbians are ticked off at our two Jewish heritage secretaries Albright and Cohen for dropping bombs on innocent Serbian people. Poles remember very well the slanderous anti-Polish books by Leon Uris, birdie lies of Jerzy Kosinski and grossly sick science fiction of Tom Gross and bitchy anti-Polish articles by George Will.

So I am waiting eagerly to see the true story of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The courageous polonized Jews, about 700 of them deciding to go against the Jewish establishment and to fight against not only the Germans but mostly against their own traitors in the Jewish police the Judenrats. And courageous young Poles risking their own lives helping them to get guns, ammunition and food.

My mother, who was 13 year old when the Ghetto Uprising erupted, called me with the good news about the truth finally coming out. She even thought, that the true story may show girls like her helping the Jews behind the ghetto walls to receive food deliveries from their hungry too Polish neighbors. Well, who knows. I am eagerly waiting for the premiere of the UPRISING on the NBC

I'm glad to see that the truth is coming out. I have always had problems with the thought that the Jews just walked to their dooms without a fight. The will to survive is in all of us!! It take true heros to act upon that impulse.

My main fear is that this movie will somehow throw a sop to the pro-Palestinians, who will say that the Palestinians are doing the equivalent thing to what the Jews did back then.

There is no comparison of course.

Of course, the account will have to be "cleaned up" a bit to account for current sensibilites regarding firearms. Instead of guns, the resistance will be armed with petitions, ballots and picket signs. There will be an emphasis on "understanding" why the Nazis hate the Jews.

the truth bump

Sounds a lot like current refugee camps/occupations in the middle east. One side grabbing land... the other mounting guerilla attacks as it's only means of defense. Just different people. Whoever holds the microphone is the right one though. I suppose there's a thousand such tails of beligerance in this century alone from all over the world. It's disgusting how people can be to one another. I see where your going with this one however. It's a common technique. Bush is going to make an announcement soon trying to right one of the main ones since WWII.

It will be interesting to see the portrayal of the traiors, who thought they could save their own hides if they just did the bidding of the enemy. Today we have a different breed of traitor, but this modern day traitor also believes by portraying sympathy for the enemy's grievances they escape the danger we all face right now.

The Warsaw ghetto uprising was indeed a heroic event, as was the uprising at Treblinka, which was buried by the brown shirts. When one thinks of the "innocent civilians" that have no choice but to accept totalitarian governments, there has always been those that would resist. The thousands that elected to flee to Pakistan when they heard Omar would not turn the mastermind criminal over, and knew any nation would fight back as we are, had the choice to resist their outlaw government and hand over bin hidin themselves. A difficult move, but not impossible. They chose to flee instead. Sure we should try and feed them and keep them from freezing and starving, but they did have other choices, as we all have, and as those brave souls in the Warsaw ghetto had and rolled with.

Leon Uris wrote a book called "Mila 18" which is a fictionalized account of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. I highly recommend the book. I'm looking forward to seeing Uprising Sunday night.

I read the Leon Uris book, "Mila 18" several years ago. It was about the uprising of the Warsaw Ghetto Jews. Terrific book!

Great minds think alike! I hadn't read all the posts, so I hadn't seen yours before I posted about "Mila 18". It really was a good book!

Most did not knowingly do that. At first they were tricked and lied to, then, once the truth became apparent they were in a very weakened position faced with overwhelming force. I remember the case of a woman who survived being shot in the back of the head and falling into a pit of naked dead bodies. I'm sure we have all seen the picture of the naked people walking single file to the edge of the pit and waiting to be shot. This woman miraculous survived as she was shot just before the Germans fled in front of the advancing American Army. When later asked how people could just line up to be shot without offering any resistence she said that in those circumstances you will do all you can to survive just one more second. Not having been there I don't know but I do know that many fight against impossible odds to survive.
