In the darkest hours of the night, Judith Kaplan, dressed in her Sabbath finery, sat in a tent outside the New York City Medical Examiner's office, singing the haunting repertoire from the Book of Psalms, The New York Times reported.
From midnight until 5 a.m., within sight of trucks full of body parts from the World Trade Center, she fulfilled the selfless of Jewish commandments: to keep watch over the dead, who must not be left alone from the moment of passing away until burial.
Kaplan, 20, a senior at Stern College for Women, a division of Yeshiva University, is one of nine students who have volunteered for this solemn task on the Sabbath.

Presents a much different picture than that fat Palestinian cow dancing in the streets with her pack of little terrorists-to-be in celebration of the attack.
God bless you, Judith.

A heartwarming and selfless tribute .
Quite unlike what Hillary did- worry about Chelsea...and publicize it to boot

Sitting up with the dead. A long-time Southern practice as well.

Note to muslims: this is what a truly peaceful religion does!

Just goes to show ya who cares and who doesn't. I don't see any Muslims out there doing their thing. Oh wait, yes they are. They're out there doing what they've always done: blaming the Jews for the problems of the world, blaming America for supporting the Jews, and supporting terrorists, for the most part.

No others are as well.
In addition, Orthodox Jews volunteered to do a service which only they do in Israel, that is to recover body parts at places where that grim task is needed.

the image of a young woman praying for the dead is haunting and beautiful because it personifies what goodness really is. it's a quiet tribute to all who died whether jewish, christian, atheist, and yes, even muslim.

It is telling that the fulfillment of this Mitzvah was not covered by the media in this country.

"Sitting up with the dead. A long-time Southern practice as well." Oh the stories my Husband and Father have told about this practice in their childhoods!

Bump. Does anyone know where the city morgue is off-hand? This needs more press.
