The gunship banks and rotates about the target point and fire control and gunners aquire and fire on targets. The modern day gunship has a 25mm Gatling gun, a 40mm and a 105 mm cannon with fire control. Radar can track and display the impact of the 40 and 105mm projectiles to increase accuracy. It can target accurately at night and through all types of weather. It can fire on two separate targets 1 kilometer distance from each other. The gunship is called SPOOKY and the Cone of Fire seen and heard when it is firing is referred to as the Dragons Breath.
Here's a link to "The Times" for an article about the "Spooky". The picture came to me by e-mail, and I couldn't find a source for that, but it's impressive.
O2
P.S. Please be kind if this isn't in the right place or has been posted before, I did do a search and couldn't find it. (and this is my first article !)
:^)

It's been posted several times before on different threads about 130 and the other gunships we've had in our arsenal...but as far as I'm concerned, no sweat...I always like seeing it. Saw a live fire demonstration of one of these when I was stationed at Nellis....awesome...and very scary.

different threads about 130 and the other Sorry, should have read:
different threads about the 130 and the other

To: omegatoo
I think that what was stated on the other thread, the tracers are only visible on every seventh (?) round, so what you see is only a small part of the "Dragons Breath"

    A Taliban Tornado?
To: omegatoo
Been around since 1998 and this is your FIRST post?!?!?
Anyway, always nice to see the photo again.
If you want a decent read, try "Gunship : Spectre of Death" by Henry Zeybel. Bought it as a paperback in an airport sometime ago. It's an embellished story, fact-based, from a gunner's point of view of what it was like to fly missions in a Spectre in Nam.

It's been posted before but thank you for posting it again. It's an incredible picture and we need to see what we have to use against those Taliban thugs that they haven't really seen yet. I believe the gun ship has only gone out a couple of times and hasn't really been used on the front lines yet.
They need to put something in the ammunition that will cause it to be seen like this. It would be terrifying.
To: omegatoo
Ya know what is really scary? These rounds you see are the tracer rounds. Tracers are every fifth round I believe. So, correct me if I am wrong, that cone of death we see is only every fifth round.
To: omegatoo
The gunship is called SPOOKY No, the gunship is called Spectre. The AC-47 was called Spooky.

Don't know if this is a good forum upon which to raise this notion, but here goes.
I'm a writer by trade, one of many here at FR. I've never served in the military, but right now is a super time to write and have published the stories from our patriotic military personnel, especially the recently retired ones. Our nation needs a rah rah push, to up perception of the vital and truly sacrificial service of our military citizens. This nation is at the precipice of losing our resolve to be ruthless and deal with real enemies, NOW, before those enemies gain the easy access to weapons of mass destruction.
The more written and published that sing the praises of our military capabilities and the patriotism of our armed service personnel, the better will be our potential for maintaining our necessary resolve. Our young people need leadership toward patriotism, but our colleges are feeding them the pap of 'peace and love', 'don't rock the boat around the world', 'tolerance of others is the most important mark of character', and last but certainly not least dangerous, 'the use of our technology and overwhelming fire power is a bullying tactic'! [I especially love biden for that piece of crap!]
So, what's my message?... Simply, if there are retired military personnel who have a good story to tell but haven't the writing talents to do it, give me or someone like me a buzz, to get the story out to our youth via books and perhaps future movies by men like Arnold Schwartzwhosit. Our country needs the boost in patriotism and to give it work must begin yesterday on the literature and film to accomplish it.
The need is urgent; the resources of personnel do exist, but the work has to be done to use those wonderful resources, both of story tellers and ghost writers.
