Salvation Army Extends Benefits to "Gays"
American Family Association ^ | Nov. 7, 2001 | AFA President Don Wildmon

Posted on 11/07/2001 6:26:33 PM PST by RoyCohn

American Family Association said today it was stunned and disappointed to learn that The Salvation Army’s Western Corporation, encompassing 13 states, has decided to begin extending domestic partner benefits to the sex partners of its homosexual employees.

“We are absolutely shocked that an evangelical Christian organization would grant health benefits to same-sex partners. Homosexual relationships are not legitimate in God’s eyes, and treating them as if they are by extending the benefits traditionally reserved for married couples is troubling,” said AFA President Donald E. Wildmon.

Colonel Philip D. Needham, the Chief Secretary for the organization’s western corporation, defended The Salvation Army’s decision, saying the new policy was “made on the basis of strong ethical and moral reasoning,” and that the change in benefits policy was necessary due to “the dramatic changes in family structure in recent years.”

The organization came under intense pressure in 1997, when San Francisco passed a law which required companies and non-profit groups doing business with the city to extend domestic partner benefits to homosexual employees or lose their contracts. The Salvation Army refused to compromise ? and promptly lost its $3.5 million contract.

“Four years ago The Salvation Army felt it would rather lose $3.5 million than extend benefits to same-sex partners. Now, on the basis of some new ‘ethical and moral reasoning,’ they feel like they should extend the benefits? What’s really going on here?” Wildmon asked. “The only thing that’s different between 2001 and 1997 is how many companies in the U.S. have capitulated to the demands of homosexual activists.”

In fact, Wildmon pointed to the western corporation’s own press release announcing the policy change. It said The Salvation Army’s extension of benefits to same-sex partners is “reflecting a trend that has grown in recent years among Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations.”

“For Christians, the ends can never justify the means. The Salvation Army may be trying to do a good deed by extending these benefits, but by doing so they are compromising what God designed the family to be,” Wildmon said.

He also said he was concerned that Christians may now become confused about where The Salvation Army stands on the controversial topic of homosexuality, and send their gifts to other organizations who perform the same community services.

Wow, this one was a real shock. So who now is left to support? United Way is gone, Salvation Army gone.

Ya know, I think Jerry Falwell was right.

Mom, does this guy have rocks in his head? I guess we need a good enlisted man to be in charge, and not a Colonel, huh?

Yikes, I sent them $25. after 9-11.

I'm sick of having these big non-profits use charity money to increase their personnel-related expenditures. From now on, my charity money is going to my church.

Next thing you know the Salvation Army will be appointing homosexual counselors to minister to kids in need. Like any big beaurocracy, they have fallen prey to the homosexual degenerates.

The Salvation Army's Position on Homosexuality The Salvation Army holds a positive view of human sexuality. Where a man and a woman love each other, sexual intimacy is understood as a gift of God to be enjoyed within the context of heterosexual marriage. However, in the Christian view, sexual intimacy is not essential to a healthy, full, and rich life. Apart from marriage, the scriptural standard is celibacy.

Sexual attraction to the same sex is a matter of profound complexity. Whether this is the result of genetics, environment, or some combination of both, attempts to deny its reality or to marginalize those of a same-sex orientation have not been helpful. The Salvation Army does not consider same-sex orientation blameworthy in itself or simply a matter of the will. While some Christian believers witness to a reorientation

And homosexual promiscuity and AIDS has accomplished what? And confusing young kids into joining the lifestyle and becoming so unhappy with it's emptiness that they commit suicide has accomplished what?

If people are in need of food, clothing or shelter, i think the last thing we need to do is question their sexuality.

I think you're missing the point. If a businessman had a particular hooker or sex partner he liked to see on a regular basis, is she now qualified to receive a cash bonus from a charity organization because her sex partner died?

Forget the red pots, and give you Christmas contribution to your local Rescue Mission, or your local church.
