GOING to the pub is GOOD for men, scientists have discovered. Relaxing and socialising with the lads is mentally beneficial, they say.
And despite what nagging wives believe only one in 10 men actually goes there just to drink alcohol. Psychologist Dr Colin Gill, of Leeds University, surveyed 900 men and concluded most went to the pub to get away from pressures of modern life. He found 43 per cent of men went there to chat, while 24 per cent wanted to relax and unwind.
Twenty-one per cent said they went to enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Dr Gill said: Women often lament the time men spend in the pub, but it fulfils many functions. Its a unique environment that allows men to bond with their peers, in addition to providing a valuable release valve for the pressures of modern life.
Men need breakout time and are mentally healthier for it. The report, commissioned by alcohol-free beer firm Kaliber, also found half of men visit the pub after 8pm, with just over a quarter preferring to go on the way home from work.
The research was welcomed by Peter Barnett, 60, landlord of the Britons Protection pub in Manchester. He said: Its fantastic news. Now men who get grief off their women can point to the benefits.

. Psychologist Dr Colin Gill, of Leeds University, surveyed 900 men
After spending enough time at the bar to get 900 men to answer a survey, Dr. Gill might have a slight drinking problem himself,
and have to skew the results of his own study to cover his ass at home. Welcome Dr. Gill!

SOMEHOW I KNEW THIS WOULD BE FROM YOUrandystone

Not surprising. Men and women communicate differently. Men need to spend time with other men in order to relieve stress. You don't have to drink. I go to a men's Bible Study on Monday mornings. Same concept. Go to ballgames, work on community projects.
It's not healthy for a man to spend all his time with women.

My favorite Andy Capp saying:
"If you drink, your gonna die.
If you don't drink, your gonna die anyway!
So, enjoy life!"
Barkeep, I'll have another!

So when "WE" go out with the "girls, you'll have no objections, right?
To: jjbrouwer
I've always said, going to the bar is about the fun you have while drinking.
I agree that when you pull up a bar stool, the outside world is put on hold until you leave.
