The Lady
I wonder what she thought
as she stood there, strong and tall.
She couldn't turn away.
She was forced to watch it all.
Did she long to offer comfort
as her country bled?
With her arm forever frozen
high above her head.
She could not shield her eyes.
She could not hide her face.
She just stared across the water,
keeping freedom's place.
The smell of smoke and terror
somehow reduced her size.
So small within the harbor,
but still we recognized....
How dignified and beautiful
on a day so many died.
I wonder what she thought,
and I know she must have cried.

Despite what the modern "poets" say, good poetry should rhyme. That was a good one. Thanks.

A side by side comparison of before and after, with The Lady still unmoved, would be agreat way to accentuate the poem.

Thank you for this, Sam. It says so much about our Lady and our country. This one sorta fits here, too:

Hi, Bunny, thank you for such sweet words. Sam, your post #10 and my #9 are so much alike, it's uncanny. Oh, then yesterday there was the one with the eagle, with blood coming from his beak...."Hit me with your best shot"....or something similar to that. The terrorists - they struck us, but they can't keep us down for long.
