Site lets you send e-mail to soldiers
November 9, 2001
It was a popular song of the World War I era that first encouraged Americans to "Keep the home-fires burning." Now, a local computer training company--Tutor Barb Inc.--is helping a new generation do the same thing.
Volunteers from Tutor Barb have created a Web site--www.projecthomefires.com--that allows people to send e-mails to soldiers and sailors involved in Operation Enduring Freedom.
This is the first military conflict in which all U.S. service members have had access to e-mail, but security concerns have kept their addresses confidential. Now, people can send e-mail by going online to the Project Homefires site, clicking on the "Email Service Members" button and choosing the "Project Homefires eMail Program" option. That lets you send e-mail to an electronic mailbox for one or more of the deployed military units. The message will be forwarded to a service member, according to Tutor Barb.
The Web site also provides links to e-mail addresses for Navy ships at sea that are not involved in the current conflict, for locating the address of a friend in the military and for enrolling in services that match people with military pen pals.

Thank you.
Here's another one, which I believe was asked to halt snail mail service temporarily during the height of the anthrax scare...
SOS: Send a soldier mail online
Bookmarked, as well.
