TOTAL: 4,537 Nowhere near what it could have been.
Bad timing on the part of the terrorists and heroic efforts by the rescuers saved us a much larger toll.
Thank you, Lord. Thank you.

Still gives me a lump in my throat everytime I see the numbers.
And I know it may sound awful of me but every time I have heard of the Taliban or Afghanistan releasing numbers of civilians supposedly killed I cannot help but begin to do this numbers game in my head. (Lets see..thats rougly 6000 of OUR civilians..now subtract one hundred fifty......)

Yes, especially when you consider the number of people who occupy those buildings on a daily basis. I heard numbers of 10,000 per building on a normal day and as high as 25,000 additional people, if there were several conferences going on in both buildings. That's a potential of 45-50,000. And ... we lost less than 5,000.
First mistake was time of day - it was way too early in the morning. Second mistake was that people from the 2nd building would override the statements from security and continue to exit the building. These people, especially, were miles from both towers when they fell down. It was a miracle so many survived.

What do you find tacky about the American Flag,American Eagle and the heroic words of an Amercian citizen who led the charge against the hijackers of the fourth plane?

Actually it's 80,000 who work in both buildings and 100,000 who visit per day. ( visit could be sales calls, restaurants, blah blah blah) I think that number also includes the connected mall. I just know that it was the bravery of the Fire and Police that saved so many lives. God bless them.

"That graphic just gets tackier with every new incarnation"
I find it strange that that graphic has been posted many, many times by various FReepers
and you are the ONLY one who has said something negative about it.

Thanks fer posting the graphic, Yatch. I happen to like it and it lifts my mood somewhat.
Perhaps my aesthetic sensibilities aren't so keenly honed as Mr. Ratatoskr's...
