Afghanistan's opposition Northern Alliance is claiming the ruling Taliban's main fighting force has been wiped out in a string of surprise weekend defeats.
However, the U.S. Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, says while the Northern Alliance has "effective control" of the key crossroads city of Mazar-i-Sharif, it is still meeting pockets of resistance.
The Northern Alliance Foreign Minister, Abdullah Abdullah, says the collapse of Taliban forces has put its troops on the outskirts of Herat, the main city in western Afghanistan, and approaching Kabul.

The Northern Alliance Foreign Minister, Abdullah Abdullah, says the collapse of Taliban forces has put its troops on the outskirts of Herat, the main city in western Afghanistan, and approaching Kabul.
The opposition has said in the past an offensive would stop outside Kabul, where it is hated for the power struggles in the 1990s.
Pakistan has warned of a repeat of violence there, if the Northern Alliance takes the city while other countries have also said it could complicate a post-Taliban political settlement

We like this dude!

Goodnight...
In another article posted today (sorry I can't find the link)these 1200 pakistani volunteers refused to surrender to N.A. forces, after negotiations failed, the N.A. forces attacked and supposedly killed them all.....
I believe this may reduce the number of Pakistani cannon fodder
volunteers dramtically......
