Salvation Army overrules same-sex ruling

Salvation Army overrules same-sex ruling Commissioners reverse earlier decision benefiting homosexuals

The Salvation Army has issued an edict overriding a controversial decision by one of its U.S. territories that said the Christian organization would extend "domestic partner" benefits to its employees.

The reversal of policy was announced yesterday by the Salvation Army's Commissioner's Conference. The new policy establishes a national protocol stating that the organization would only extend health benefits to an employee, his or her spouse, and their children.

"We applaud the Salvation Army for changing what would have been a disastrous course once they realized they had made a wrong decision," said Sandy Rios, president of Concerned Women of America. "This policy, in effect, had the Salvation Army giving its stamp of approval to sexual relationships outside marriage."

Last week, officials in charge of the Salvation Army's Western Territory made a decision to offer domestic partner benefits to employees of the organization – even homosexual employees – to go along with a City of San Francisco policy that demands groups doing business with it have a domestic-partner benefits program.

The decision sparked a firestorm of protest from traditional family groups all across the nation.

But, according to Commissioner Lawrence Moretz, who distributed a memo yesterday to all Salvation Army officers, the Commissioners' Conference stated clearly that its decision rescinds the Western Territory's earlier policy on domestic-partner benefits.

Some of the organization's supporters have predicted that groups supporting homosexual rights would begin attacking the Salvation Army for reversing its decision, much like similar groups did after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June 2000 that the Boy Scouts of America were constitutionally protected from recourse after prohibiting openly homosexual scoutmasters and scouts from joining the ranks.

"Our understanding is that the Salvation Army will pay a heavy price, both financial and psychological, as liberals begin to assail them for their biblical stand in favor of marriage and family," said Rios. "We must rally to their support."

Please donate to the Salvation Army.
It's nice to read about organizations who are brave enough to stand up for their Constitutional right to freedom of religion.
God bless these Americans.
They will need financial support, as did the young Boy Scouts of America.

this is very important. when choosing to donate, would you rather donate to an organization that gives money to defend the very people we are fighting against, (red cross) defence of the terrorist, or someone who share your values and who takes a stand for what they believe, and what most of us believe.

it's ok to think it is immoral to be homosexual and choose not to support people who make that choice. that's a choice of a religious organization, i will be donating to them, the red cross lost any chance to ever receive further donations from me after their stand on giving money to legal defence fund. furthermore i feel it's my responsibility to tell others.

No, the story of the Salvation Army GIVING benifets was old, but the news about their declaring it was inappropriate for a Christian organization is NEW news.

Bump for the SA and against the militant homosexual radical leftist anti-family, anti-American, anti-religious agenda.

simple things can help. when you move, instead of wasting all day having a garage sale, give it to the salvation army. don't throw things away, if there is a possibility someone could use it, give it to the salvation army. everybody wins. if anything the deduction is more than the $50 you would get from the garage sale anyway.

Wrong. I love the decision. I just don't like clicking on something in breaking news thinking there's further news on a story I'm following closely when there isn't.

This is such WONDERFUL news! I am so pleased! I'll look forward to seeing the bell ringers this season and you can bet I'll add to the red pot!

Wouldn't it be nice if more of the Churches had this kind of spine? It's bad enough when the Church leaders "look the other way" when confronted with this issue, but many of them actually CONDONE it!

Many of our Church organizations could take a lesson in this. It's time to take a stand and make our voices known. This is America (not Sodom) and no one can force the acceptance and normalization of this "lifestyle" upon us.

For this Christian organization to have rescinded the Sixth Commandment (chastity) would have been a rejection of Christian truth, Christian faith and, ultimately, Christian salvation. The San Francisco Heresy (my label) should go down in the annals as a moment of truth for religious charity foundations in America.

I'm glad someone at the Salvation Army remembered Who gave them their mission.
