Russian President Valdimir Putin seems like a cold fish. He is either camera shy or charismatically challenged. His KGB background makes him suspect, too. But our appraisal of him matters less than that of President Bush, and Bush obviously has taken a liking to the Kremlin boss.

How short-sighted can the editorial staff be! Putin is still reeling from Barabra Walter's interview! Camera shy, charismatically challenged? NOT.

Our press, even the friendly ones, just don't get it! The 8 years of "yucking it up before the tv cameras " is OVER.

The Bush administration is one of grown-ups and seriousness. We are at war!

What I don't get is why we treat Russia -- which wants to align with us -- like dirt, and we treat China -- which wants to destroy us -- like favorite sons.

IMO the situation should be reversed, at least until China makes a break with communism, and gives up its plans to destroy us.

Perhaps because the US State Department still has some residual communists, left over from the Cold War?

A combination of both I suspect. I think Bush is on the case now, though. I didn't see Ziang Zemin riding horses at the ranch anyhow. And right now, it's got to look like 8 years of promotions and funding are on the line.

For the last eight years, in the Klintoon administration, we did exactly that. Built up the Chinese and laughed at the Russians. Now with the Bush administration, we're propping up the Russians and to hell with the Chinese...
