Passengers streamed past these PATH turnstiles at the World Trade Center by the tens of thousands until Sept. 11. Now they're part of a 2-month-old challenge for Port Authority engineers. Only one train had been trapped by the rubble.

Four out of seven cars were covered in rubble. Liquor bottles survive on the shelves of the Commuter Cafe, but the bar and concourse outside it on the PATH level are hardly fit to reopen for business.

As far as I know, the PATH train was empty when the attack occured.

As soon as the first plane hit, all trains were stopped or put in reverse.

Thanks for the pics. Looks pretty treacherous down there, and I am trying not to overreact to the presence of WATER on the PATH platform (saying over and over, "it could be from a hose, not the Hudson").

It's still so hard to get a visual orientation from the pictures. Do you have any idea whether the building in the bottom photo is #5 or #6 WTC? I don't remember where that underground entrance was located.

I think the service area garage (which is what this looks like) had an entrance on Vessey under Building 6, the Customs House.

I hereby volunteer to take ownership of those poor lonely bottles of booze and keep them in memory of those who perished. And that pic of the PATH turnstyles was weird. I used to go through those very same one to visit friends in Jersey City/Hoboken. When the attack happened, I was on the subway line that runs under the Towers. They hustled us uptown and at the time, no one knew why. All in all, the Port Authority did a tremendous job.

The so called 'bathtub' has survived intact. NO water is incoming from the Hudson. Consider the millions of gallons of water that continue to be poured on the still burning wreckage as the source of any water down below.

I passed through those path turnstile for six years and I drank at that bar. THat bar looks better in that picture than it was when I was there. I am amazed that this area is still there! I expected it to be crushed. Good pictures. Makes me sad and glad to be here today.

I took the subway north on the 4-5-6 line from Bowling Green around 9:20 that morning. I asked the lady in the token booth if the trains were still running, and she said, "Sure!" That line runs a bit east of the two lines that were damaged (the old 1-9 which is down for at least a couple of years; and the M-N-R, which still has some closed stations). But it took a while for the transportation agency to deal with such an unexpected crisis. For which I'm grateful, since a comfortable subway ride uptown was a lot better than trekking through smoke and ashes, as happened with anyone who waited a few minutes longer.

Wow, if that's #6, that's another picture for that idiot who claimed there was only "roof damage" to the other buildings in the complex.

The so called 'bathtub' has survived intact. NO water is incoming from the Hudson. So I'd heard, but those rumors of salt water in the tunnels just won't go away. I think it's a myth, and I also hope it's a myth, because that would be one major mess.

Some people really think there's a tourist guy on the WTC observation deck too.
