The Justice Department yesterday released updated information on the immigration status of the 19 hijackers who attacked America September 11, showing that all had legally entered the country on tourist or student visas.

Three of the air pirates had overstayed their one-year visas, according to the department, although 16 others were in the country legally when they hijacked and piloted four jetliners into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in western Pennsylvania.

Looks like we have a lot of work ahead of us to tighten up our borders.

This sure isn't the story they were putting out right after the incident. One report I read stated that as many as thirteen of the nineteen were here illegaly, after overstaying visas.

Take a look at the nationality breakdown. Thirteen are either known or suspected citizens of Saudi Arabia. Isn't that wonderful!

Can anyone tell me why we must allow middle easterners in? What's up with that anyway? I'm sorry, but what is the driving force behind this madness we lovingly call immigration policy? Yes I know, we're much stronger due to diversity. Well, I'm not buying that pap.

Boxcutters don't fly airplanes into buildings; people do. So far, most of the reform sound and fury has gone into elimination of physical implements.

The INS needs to become capable of keeping bad people out. Their new motto SHOULD BE:

WHEN IN DOUBT, KEEP THEM OUT!!

What an "immigration policy"!

There's a visa for every BS reason known to man, except a "Terrorist Visa." Oh yeah, those visas are known as "student/tourist" visas -- pardon the euphemism.

I dunno, does it somehow make it better that we let them in legally? I think not.

It's so nice that they were all here legally. Makes a person wonder if possibly there is something wrong with the laws and regulations that allowed them to enter the country legally. Almost makes a mockery of the idea that we will go after any nation that harbors terrorists.

Evidently this does not cover nations that have terrorist training camps for pilots. It seems ironic that we are bursting every balloon to get every terrorist in Afghanistan but are failing to weed out potential terrorists in this country.

Justice probe finds all hijackers entered U.S. legally

Which means that in effect they all had national ID cards which prevented any serious terrorism.   </sarcasm>

Atta and some of the others had business visas. Would they have had to list the name of a firm on their visa applications? If so, I would hope those firms have been investigated.

Sounds as if the whole bunch was "protected." Would that have been because they were Saudis, or because they were in some program that the CIA had an interest in, like Islamofascism?

To be fair to the Saudis, we know bin Laden was interested in having his recruiters recruit American citizens, because their U.S. passports would make it easy for them to travel unmolested. He probably had a similar interest in people with Saudi passports.

They entered legally, however their status as of 9-11 was illegal as they had either never entered or had quit school. That is why you heard the fuss over better tracking of student visas.

I agree. I feel that it's pretty difficult for our people to understand the dynamics of the Middle East as it applies to the Saudis. They seem to want to be our allies, but the royal family walks a pretty fine line as far as I am concerned. Too far one way or the other and their goose is cooked either way.

It is rather interesting that we hear a lot of talk about training to fly in flight schools, but most of these people only entered the nation in May or later.

"Looks like we have a lot of work ahead of us to tighten up our borders."

Appears I was wrong when I posted a few days back, that some of the hijackers came through Mexico. Anyway, yes, we need to immediately "tighten up our borders."

More proof that our immigration system has become the enemy of the American people.

No more "pity-the-poor-immigrant".

Reform immigration now!
