One thing to be said about the news coverage of the War on Terrorism - an item that seems to be conspicuous by its absence, there is virtually no mention anywhere that today is the 38th anniversary of the JFK assassination. The date of September 11, 2001 has finally eclipsed November 22, 1963.

9/11 was probably caused to a degree by the JFK and RFK assassinations. It is just a continuation of the strange course set for us all by Oswald and Sirhan Sirhan.

The evening news is yet to happen. That and the DoJ HQ was recently named for RFK - which should jog the news toadies memories today.

Today is also my mother's birthday - I'd rather have that not be eclipsed by JFK tributes for once in my life.

Also, while I'm at it...

To all Irish Roman Catholics who revere the Kennedys in spite of the evidence: How about getting another "role model family" to look up to instead of the Kennedys? History is replete with other Irish/Catholic persons that are far more worthy of your attention. It might take a little more effort to do so, but I encourage you to do so.

Thomas Cahill's book "How the Irish Saved Civilization" would be a good start in your search for a better Irish icon than the Kennedys.

BTW - I'm Irish/Catholic, so save the venom. Even if I wasn't, the argument still stands on its own.

Well, maybe not forgotten. Perhaps simply put in its rightful place in the context of history. Is it true that almost half the population of the country today was not alive when JFK was killed?

You might not be far off the mark:

No matter how the history has been shaped since then - JFK was not the warm fuzzy anti-warrior we keep hearing about.
He made Indo-China a formal fight after years of embarassed low level "assistance" and he pretty much put LBJ into a position with no way out. It would be interesting to try picturing today's world had that aproach continued.

RFK was a jerk and his cabinet position was nepotism, but he didn't screw around with the "evil doers" of his day. What would immigration policies and policing of potential hijackers have looked like if he'd had a few more years?

FReeper alloysteel has nailed it! Right, and one can hope that as soon as Teddy disappears the Kennedy "Dynasty" will also fade away.

Oswald and Sirhan were the dupes. Those who made it happen got by with it.

Ec 9:5

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing,

neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

So much for fame..........

I suspect that is why we still don't have relations with our third geographicaly closest country...

A man has simply got to have priorities.

You bet..... but what can you expect from media types that for the most part were born after 22 Nov 63?

Commemorations are now a political tool of the left wing media. When X42 was being impeached the media decided to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Watergate. Somehow they tried to establish that the Watergate scandals were a real threat to our government that we somehow survived because of all the good DemoRats who fought for the American Way.

Heck, X42 was only guilty of a personal peccadillo, (aka a blow job in the oval office!) and all that other stuff, you know...Perjury, Treason, and Murder were all the "fault" of the VWRC!
