Please, it's called the stern!

Please be patient with those of us who are 'oceanographically challenged'! Actually I already knew what it was called, but those who've never been out on boat wouldn't have a clue!

I love the pic of the folks fishing, too. Just what are they trying to catch, though? Somehow I don't think they'll be pulling in any crappie, bluefish, ocean perch, etc. Are those rods and reels big enough for swords and tuna?

I didn't intend for it to be a rebuke. I bolded the "Please" with the intention of comedy, more like "Puh-leeez" so I am sorry.

As for the catch, since the press has been restricted in access to actual battle areas I am guessing that they are at an anchorage and the pictures were shot looking seaward. Also, it is probably only catch and release sport fishing, when I was in I heard storie of guys catching things and bribing a cook to fix it for them, but I doubt that goes on in todays Navy!

On a lighter note, when I was in, at "Gitmo", there were a couple of guys that went to sick-bay and had the Doc draw their blood to use for "chum", they were convinced they could catch a shark. Nothing came of it, actually that isn't true they did manage to foul the ships propellor and the Captain had to go down and free it! Luckily he was into SCUBA or we might have had to call for assistance, which would have been extremely embarrassing!!

Thanks, Nitro.
DOGGONE, those pictures make me SO proud to be an American!!
"Bless 'em all, bless 'em all, bless the young, the short and the tall...."

SuziQ, the only time I was ever on a ship that size was when we were doing simulated beach landings in Coronado, CA.
Daily messages came over the PA to gather at a certain place, like the "Aft Poop Deck" (or whatever).
A thousand Gyrenes would be asking the first Swabby they saw where to go.
Of course, the Swabbies would tell us the exact opposite of where this place was located!
In full packs and gear, we'd pass each other in the hallways and on the decks, some running toward the stern and some running toward the bow!
Complete chaos!!
Now you know why I love Swabbies!
LOL!!
