A MAN with only one arm was caught drink-driving after police saw him chatting on a mobile phone held in his only hand, a court heard yesterday.
Stuart MacNamara, 34, a landscape gardener, passed a red traffic light while steering his four-wheel drive vehicle with the stump of his right arm. When police stopped him they discovered he was nearly twice the drink-drive limit, magistrates at Swansea, south Wales, were told.
Julie Sullivan, prosecuting, said officers could not believe what they had seen. "He had been driving while holding his mobile phone to his left ear. "His right arm was missing below the elbow and the vehicle was not adapted in any way. They were baffled how he could steer.
"On top of that he was breath-tested and found to be over the drink-drive limit." MacNamara, a father-of-four, of Llanmorlais, Swansea, lost his arm in an accident and has registered his disability with the Department of Transport.
He admitted driving with excess alcohol, driving when he could not have proper control and going through a red traffic light. He was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £450.

Not exactly a two-fisted drinker, though.

What! they expect him to hold the phone with the stump arm? Give the guy a break. If he could handle the wheel with his stump and talk on the phone, obviously the amount of drink is irrevelant.

Hell, over here, the "prosecution" would be charged with at least six violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The "perp" would own the taxpayers and live happily - and wealthily - ever after.

Seriously though, last week a drunk driver killed a teenage boy going to a football game after running a red light. We was required to drive only cars with hand controls and his SUV had none.

Nope, he can't two-fist them, but he is still a screw head.

This reminds me of the story that was on KOB TV (Albuquerque) last year, about a guy who is suing his one-armed surgeon for botching his vasectomy operation.

Hysterical. Whats makes it even more amazing for me is that most every car in the U.K. is manual transmission. This was one motivated guy.

Steering by the knees.LOL. When I read the first paragraph of this to my husband those were almost his exact words.

Not any more. The manual tranny in Britain is going the way of the dodo. Sigh...
