If a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged, a similar attitude adjustment could be boosting the size and changing the face of the region's gun-toting population.
Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, gun instructors say, attendance at firearms courses in Massachusetts has skyrocketed among a broad swath of the population for whom personal safety has become a big worry.

Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, gun instructors say, attendance at firearms courses in Massachusetts has skyrocketed among a broad swath of the population for whom personal safety has become a big worry.''Before, people wanted a firearm not so much for protection, but for recreation,'' Green said. ''Now, it's the individual starting to take responsibility for his own and his family's self-preservation.''
Finally people are starting to wise up. Massachusetts is not the only state that this is happening in. It is everywhere.

"Pearson, who survived a gunshot to the head in 1981.."No doubt the "common sense" part of her brain was severely damaged.

''We have one of the toughest gun laws in the country,'' Goggin said. ''Once folks look a little further into having a gun in Massachusetts, a lot of them are reconsidering their decision to buy.''Once folks look a little further into just how far their rights have been violated in Taxachussetts, a lot of them are reconsidering their decision to live there at all.

According to a new law adopted in Kalifornia, soon one will have to "qualify" for a gun purchase by going through a hands-on class and taking an exam, similar to the kommie state in this article.

[I]n Kalifornia, soon one will have to "qualify" for a gun purchase by going through a hands-on class and taking an exam... Welcome to my world. In addition, the local police chief has wide latitude in "approving" a handgun permit. Not concealed carry, just a handgun permit. Roger Clemens quit the Red Sox after the Framingham PC threatened to pull his MA handgun permit after he and his brother got into a dust up with the local constabulary in Houston, TX.

Not unsympatheticly, y'all deserve what you got. Now kick the left and the gun-grabbers out. You've been shown the error of their ways and they've shown their stripes, red and yellow.

If Mass. could pick a senator as well...

Goggin, the Executive Office of Public Safety spokesman, said that before buying a firearm in Massachusetts, an applicant must complete a safety course and receive the approval of the local police chief within 45 days.Yeah ... some of the gang-bangers have been complaining about this.
On another subject, though, this week is the beginning of deer season in Pennsylvania. About 1.6 million will take to the woods, and all of them know how to aim and shoot. I'm going to take a guess and say that there are maybe 40 million hunters in the country. The point is, folks, rest assured there is plenty of fire power out there despite the best efforts of people like Pearson and the like thinking politicians.

Have to agree with you. I've visited with Bay State gun buyers at Iowa gun shows.

Guess the people of Massachusetts are going to have to decide between the Lefties Gravy-Train Politics...or putting some people in office who will respect their natural tendencies - and Constitutional right - to self-preservation?
(Thanks, Brownie...bookmarked!)

Pearson said, a gun course that she completed in late September in Harvard, Mass., had only two students. Pearson said she sought the training to determine whether the state's gun permit requirements are as onerous as many gun lobbyists argue.
Yeah, right...didya get yer permit, honey? Don't suppose you got a gun with that in the end, did ya? If it isn't onerous you did, right? Gonna throw that perfectly good self-defense weapon away?

''Protecting yourself with a gun will not help you against bioterrorism and terrorists, who don't come up and ID themselves and say, `It's me,''' said Jude Pearson, executive director of Stop Handgun Violence.Well, duh! But it WILL protect me from the drug-crazed home invader crashing through my door late at night. Maybe the fact that more citizens are arming themselves will stop the criminals from feeling that law-abiding people are "easy pickin's."
Now there's a definite improvement even if we can't stop a nuke or act of bio-terrorism.

This is good news, but owning and carrying a gun is only one part of defense and protection. The mind and reflexes must be prepared to do the hard thing without flinching or second guessing should death raise it's ugly stinger in your face.
If a gun owner is sitting in a eating establishment with his/her family and someone runs into the middle of the room yelling Allah Akbar the gun owner must have his mind so prepared that he goes into automatic pilot, access the situation in a split second, which is going in slow motion, pull, aim, fire, and pull off the perfect head shot before the terrorist has a chance to detonate himself. That is alot to do in a few seconds time and cannot be done unless prepared. The prepared mind is a huge survival tool.
