Matthews: Hillary 'Dying' to Become President

CNBC "Hardball" host and Democratic Party insider Chris Matthews said Saturday that New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton can't wait to become president of ther United States.

"She's dyin' for it," Matthews told NBC's Tim Russert, on Russert's own weekend CNBC interview show.

RUSSERT: What about your fellow Goldwater groupie Hillary Clinton?

MATTHEWS: Ah, you know, you're a New Yorker, a New York stater - um - Hillary is dyin' for it. But she's also miserable right now because of all this patriotic stuff going on - she can't stand it.

Matthews recalled an incident where Mrs. Clinton seemed reluctant to pledge allegiance to the American flag.

"I remember Hillary - I'll tell you this about Hillary," Matthews told Russert. "She once said, 'I pledge allegiance to the America that can be.'"

"What, are we on probabtion?" Matthews exclaimed.

"When is she gonna lighten up about this sort of thing," the CNBC host added. "This is a great place instead of her constant complaining."

this will make u sick. Reluctant to pledge allegiance to the American flag and she cant stand all this "patriotic stuff". HOw does this woman look at herself in the mirror and continue to survive. My fear is a couple years from now people will forget her behavior and she will "work her magic" and become president. The american public forgets things so easily and I fear that with her backing she might be able to win.

Save this article. Save all the articles like this. When she runs, we remind the American people with this as evidence of her anti-American postures during a time of war.

Try worrying about what the day brings rather than worrying about what you imagine might transpire years from now.

Her ideology is gone, all she can try and do is change and its not going to work. In a very short time she will be just another Geraldine Ferraro.

'I pledge allegiance to the America that can be.'

Well we know what that means don't we. Freakin' socialist.

""She once said, 'I pledge allegiance to the America that can be.'"

Don't forget that her fellow-socialists on the Los Angeles City Council tried to institute a "Pledge of Allegiance to the Earth" which was to be recited by all schoolchildren in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

...and I've said from the beginning that she will be the Dem nominee in 2004. Her protestations to the contrary notwithstanding.

At least Chris Matthews and Tim Russert are decent liberals and worthy opponents. Hillary Clinton and her ilk are scum.

They won't care. Americans will decide weather to elect her president based on what she can take from someone eles and give to them.

If she can convice enough people they will be paid off, she'll win. They don't care if she's a crook, since it's a crooked thing they are electing her to do.

Take that clip, and in three years, use it in the Republican presidential candidate's commercial against hillary. That "lady" is a "crunt" minus the 'R'.

I cant believe she still has a 44% appproval rating. who are these people that still support her. 44% is not all that bad considering her behavior in the past few weeks. it makes me sick

I used to worry about the possibility that Hillary might be president. I don't anymore. She's packing too much baggage, literally and FIGUREatively. After GWB, it's a new era--enough people will look back on the Clinton era negatively that she just won't attract that necessary swing vote.

She has BOUGHT her constituency with promises of big govt handouts. She would have to start shooting Jews and African Americans, trial lawyers, union workers and the like for her numbers to go down much more.
