8 Down, Many More to Go-al Qaedea planning 'Spectacular Kidnappings'
The Economist Magazine and Documents from Terrorist Locations ^ | Week of November 29, 2001 | Magnus Ranstorp

Posted on 11/26/2001 7:39:24 AM PST by codebreaker

After the American attack on Afghanistan, al Qaeda's foot soldiers have reportedly been given the green light to attack 'targets of opportunity' without authorization at the highest levels.

But if the network is plotting any really spectacular attack on western targets, that conspiracy will almost certainly been underway since September 11.

According to al-Qaeda's military doctrine-as reflected in the manuals that have fallen into western hands-the network is likely to put a high value on recovering senior members of the organization who are captured.

Mr. Ranstorp believes that if Mr. bin Laden or any of his top lieutanants are taken alive, al Qaeda may resort to spectacular kidnappings as a way of bargaining for their freedom.

If they are giving orders to make this happen, that mean the sleeper cells will activate when Bin Laden and the majority of the generals are killed or captured.

So leave bin Laden's death/whereabouts a permanent uncertainty... that way he doesn't become a martyr, the 'signal' isn't sent, and the happy Marines who find him can have carte blanche do administer whatever punishment they see fit.

'Spectacular Kidnappings'

hmmm...the microbiologist/scientist in Memphis....AOL Director of Marketing in Washington, DC. Two high profile disappearances in the last couple of weeks. Any connection?

Hopefully, the marines have brought their cans of Spam to smear on the @astards before they shoot them and send their souls to hell. (I know, I know--I'm being un-PC and bloodthirsty, but like former pacifist Paul McCartney I also say "screw the @astards...screw them all!")

Cheers.

I meant to add: Hopefully, the marines have brought their cans of Spam to smear on the @astards before they shoot them and send their souls to hell in unmarked graves...

Cheers, again.

Agreed. POOF! It's a mystery.

Sounds good at first, but the problem is we would not know, but the al Qaeda people would know.

I really, really, really, really, really, really hope that they would never be able to kidnap Hillary. That would be terrible. Wouldn't it?

Did McCartney really say this? If so, that is a great surprise.

You are bad, Doug...so bad!!! Don't give them any ideas. Unfortunately, if Hillary was kidnapped, her kidnappers would release her immediately a la O. Henry's story "The Ransom of Red Chief." No one--let alone a misanthropic Muslim terrorist scum--could stand being alone with her for more than 24 hours. Even the thought of 72 lovely virgins would not be enough to follow through with that plan.

It would be terrible--the press would make her into a martyr. Of course, the kidnappers would hock her out like a hairball in under an hour, so targetting Hillary for kidnapping would be just a waste of time.

Yes, he did. I was totally amazed. McCartney witnessed the WTC horror and was transformed. Unlike many of his celebrity associates, he gets it. One can't make peace with Muslim fanatics capable of so murderous an act...

Any sleeper cells that exist have already been activated. If you can kidnap someone that you think might hold sway over the coalition who is breaking you thoroughly and about to slaughter you, then you do it sooner rather than later so you might avoid the coming slaughter. Think about it.
