Signs of freedom in women throughout Afghanistan

Posted on 11/26/2001 2:35:27 PM PST by Diogenesis

President Bush and the US miltary have freed women throughout Afghanistan.

They have become doctors, teachers, and themselves.

Unlike the predatory previous X42, a whole nation of people is now either free, or about to be free.

The following is a photographic composite of what has happened
----- FREEDOM courtesy of the United States of America.

Does the fact that many women are still wearing the burqas mean that they WANT to wear them, or that they don't trust the Northern Alliance one bit?

The Face of Freedom, for all the world to see.

This is what our enemies hate most in us. Such for retribution.

Now, to see if the Afghans can or will sustain it, within themselves....

You know, I have been wondering that very same thing. It's unnerving to see them still wearing it, I feel bad for them if they are scared but...well, if it were me, mine would be in the nearest trash can like a week ago!

The pictures could be staged to show contrast between hooded(old) and now liberated women(new).

I wonder how many had been raped by the Taliban and Arabs, maybe they are afraid or ashamed.

Imagine being afraid to let the sun warm your face or walk outside the door without an approved escort...these women and their sons and daughters must feel so happy after years of being terrorized by the morality police...simple joy in being alive.

Me too. The first picture is amazing. They all bring a lump to my throat...I can't imagine living in such human slavery. Our military is GREAT! Thanks for the pictorial essay, D!

True, true but I have seen video since the liberation and some do still wear it. I hope they are now treated like they should be, even honored, as women, mothers and human beings. I am so proud of our troops for a job well done.

I've read that some women still wear it because it is cultural and it is their decision. Personally, I don't have a problem with that, as long as they aren't forced or coerced into wearing them. I wouldn't want to wear one...

Maybe it would be alright if we forced Janet Reno to wear one.

Amen! Wonderful shots. For women like myself, who have always had good and friendly relationships with most of the men in my life, it has been very hard for me to deal with the forced veiling of the women of Afghanistan. This is a great relief for me. I'm sure these women will feel much more relaxed at home, too. Thank God for George Bush.

How long before Naomi Wolf jets in to tell them that they've only exchanged one form of oppression for another, and, BTW, that will be $20K per interview?

My friend here said, "I am sure many are still wearing them because they've had their features horribly rearranged by the Taliban."

G d bless President Bush and the very brave US military.

These photos sell the idea that our guys (the Northern Alliance) are great and certainly polite to women. We hope they are. The Russian papers are showing the opposite. They are publishing photos of mutilated prisoners left bloody in the streets by the NA.

We certainly hope the NA boys are good like you say. We get the credit for their behavior--whether its good or bad.
