1.  Chi McBride Shocked By “Boston Public?”

It looks like the people behind the scenes of” Boston Public” know they’re in the PTC’s cross-hairs.  During a recent appearance on ABC’s” The View,” “Boston Public” star Chi McBride, who plays the part of principal Steven Harper, expressed surprise at what they are able to get away with then, inexplicably, displayed incredulity that his program was voted the worst family show on TV by the PTC.
Meredith Vieira:  Do you ever have any concerns about your show?  Because you take on some really serious issues, like teacher-student relationships, and kids with guns, and teachers talking about masturbation with the kids.  And it’s an eight o’clock show, so there are some people who are critical of that.

Chi McBride:  Well….

Meredith Vieira:  Do you find it’s too racy?

Chi McBride:  I don’t know if it’s too racy.  I was certainly a little bit surprised that we could get away with the stuff we get away with at eight o’clock in the evening.  But, um, I mean, truth is often stranger than fiction, you know?  I mean, I don’t think any of us foresaw the events that happened on September 11.  I mean, what’s stranger, seeing some of the things that happen on our show or two kids in Denver making pipe bombs in the basement and no parent goes [knocks on table] what’s going on down there?  You know?  Um, and some of it’s a little ridiculous.  I mean, we were voted the worst family show on TV, worse than wrestling.  You know? There are parents going, turn off that “Boston Public,” put on wrestling. You know?  I mean….

Off-camera:  Who voted that?  Who, who…

Chi McBride:  I know!  But we were in “USA Today” as the worst family show.  But I think parents should watch it with their kids, cause there’s a lot going on and it’s very interesting.

And what exactly would “Boston Public” be airing that is so, as Mr. McBride puts it, interesting?  Read on.

2.  This Week’s Sewage Brought to You By…AT&T

Highlights from Fox’s” Boston Public” – AIRED DURING THE FAMILY HOUR – November 19, 2001:

The episode opens with a teenaged girl and boy kissing.  She turns to face the camera as the boy begins unbuttoning her sweater.  As he begins to move his hand under her sweater, a teacher interrupts them.  Later that morning, a mother goes to the principal’s office, complaining about a column in the student newspaper about “breast-only orgasms.”

A Mother of a Student: “I don’t pay taxes… to have my daughter read how she can have an orgasm by having her breasts squeezed.”

Faculty member: “Would you rather she let boys in her pants?  … I’m serious.  If girls know that they can have orgasms without having to have intercourse, they might be willing to wait a little longer to have sex.”

Mrs. Peters, a faculty member, asks Vice Principal Guber what he plans to do about the sex column.

VP Guber: “I don’t know yet… Is it really possible?  A woman can climax simply by having her breasts touched?”

Mrs. Peters: “The nipple is connected to the same nervous system.  Many women experience uterine contractions when the breasts are stimulated. It’s common for mothers even to enjoy orgasm when they are nursing their babies.”

VP Guber: “Really?”

Mrs. Peters: “I had them with Jeremy all the time.”

Hi All,

I know that many of us are concerned about what is being shown on television. I saw the show a once or twice and don't think this is even something for adults. The PTC email alert contains good information and ways to contact those responsible for polluting the airwaves and ways to make a positive difference in our society. Some of it is offensive in the sense that they do not censor what is being shown. Unfortunately, sometimes we really need to see and hear what is happening so that when we take a stand, we know that we are not making too much of the situation, overreacting.

I know it sometimes can seem overwhelming with so much sin in our faces, but "greater is HE who is in us" right? Let's pray that:

1. These shows will go off the air like Howard Stern and that the people involved will come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior so that they can make a positive impact on society.

2. That our youth and children will hunger after righteouness and turn to God also.

Thanks, Tracia

This was forwarded to me by a friend of a friend, as I do not know Tracia directly. But the content and discription of this "smut" that is being shown via this new show at an early evening hour should be easily verified. If any of this is true, we need to join in responding to both the network as well as the sponsors (AT&T) that this is wrong. If you have watched this program, and feel the same way, I especially urge you to let your voice be heard to the sponsor, AT&T, in question.

No mention of the disclaimer that appears on screen for five seconds before the show.

"This program contains coarse language and sexual themes and may be inappropriate for younger viewers."

Gotta tell the full story if one wants to be taken seriously. This is not directed to the Freeper, but to the organization in question.

By the way, what's "sinful" about orgasms? This is not my favorite topic to discuss in public, but once the topic's posted, I suppose it merits thorough treatment.

Keep in mind that 8:00 EST is 7:00 CST, and a significant percentage of the country is on CST.

Good job posting this. Interesting note: not only is "Boston Public" banned from my household, television advertisements promoting this show are also banned. Of course, the only time FOX over the air in on in my house is during NFL football. I have the remote control.

So, if Howard Stern wanted to be at 8pm on Fox, would a "disclaimer" make it OK for you?

I don't think much of any disclaimer for this sort of material to be broadcast at this early of a timeslot. That is the point, and IMHO the fact that the organization didn't mention this "disclaimer" really doesn't do any diservice to the point being made.

Boston Public is an excellent show, though definitely not for children.

That's the whole point, i.e. the time slot that is on, based on the subject matter, is too early ... good show or not.
