Los Angeles County has quietly begun handing out condoms to gay inmates at its downtown jail in an effort to stop the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Although sex in jails and prisons is a felony crime in California, the head of the county's jail system said he is just keeping up with the times.

Typical liberal scums "keeping up with" the times. Keep up with THIS! (flashes red-white-'n-blue boxers)

Why is it that when something is LEGALLY defined as illegal, it's "ok" to do it, while something which is NOT illegal (aka, conservatism, rkba, etc) is considered taboo? I HATE kalifornia, and all of the sovietism it represents.

Mexico can have that bloody state back.

the gay section of the jail

Huh? Aren't all sections "gay" sections?
Or one section for "gay criminals" and another for "hate criminals" (since we know the know are mutually exclusive-barf).

The Sheriff's Department, which runs the largest jail system in the United States, spends $180,000 monthly on AIDS medicine to treat 220 inmates.

So it's either pay for the treatments or pay for the condoms in the hope of preventing the cost of the treatments. The taxpayers are screwed (forgive me) either way.

I think castration would be the most "reality-based response." This way they won't have to worry whether they haven't given out enough condoms, or that the condoms become currency for the convicts.

The good news is this story won't be buried. Millions just heard Paul Harvey read it.
