An angry mother shot a man who allegedly had nude pictures of young boys and had spent time with her son, authorities said.
Larry Eugene Howell was shot once in the groin and once in the side Thursday night in the front seat of his van in a drug store parking lot, Police Sgt. Teal Nally said.
Howell, 40, was in critical condition Friday morning at the University of Cincinnati Hospital.
The shooting took place next to the police department, and a 40-year-old woman was found with a 9mm revolver in her hand and arrested. She was charged with first-degree assault.
Her son was not pictured in about 25 photographs of naked boys taken from Howell's residence, but the woman was upset because her son had spent time with Howell, authorities said.
Howell, a carnival worker from nearby Erlanger, was arrested Tuesday for possession of marijuana and of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. He was freed from jail after posting $1,000 bond Wednesday, police said.
Besides the photographs, 150 negatives and a computer were taken from Howell's home, according to court records. Police have identified six of the boys whose nude photographs were found.
Erlanger police Detective Tony Wilson said he answered several calls Thursday from adults reporting that their children had spent time with Howell.
Erlanger is about 70 miles north of Lexington.

Son must have told mom something about these meetings.
She better find a good lawyer now.

if I were on a jury, it'd be hard to find this woman as the criminal and this perv as the innocent one.

Her aim needs to improve, she should have shot the sick ba$tard in the head.
To: mdittmar
Good for her.

Yep. All she needs is a jury trial with at least one parent, and she'd never be convicted.
PS I notice that she got him in the groin. I hope she's a good shot.

A real, feel good story! Thanks

Son must have told mom something about these meetings. She better find a good lawyer now. You will hear comparisons of her to Ellie Nesler, a NorCal woman who shot her son's alleged rapist. However, there is one huge difference; Nesler shot her son's molester while they were in court for the first day of the suspect's trial.
As much as I felt for Nesler, she was wrong. It would have been one thing if the system had cheated her; she didn't even give it a chance.

I wish this were more commonplace. Pervs would have to think twice before committng these acts. One side benefit would be fewer perverts around if we could kill them off.

He's a carnival worker and drives a van. That didn't set off some bells? I wouldn't let my son near someone like that.
Anyway... if I was a cop there, I'd tell that woman to make sure she wipes her prints off the gun and lose it in the Ohio river, then wish her a good day.

Sounds like he was living their idea of the "deam"...

Larry Eugene Howell was shot once in the groin... Heh heh...too bad it was only once...
Hmm...on a side note, the story says "9 mm revolver." It's either a misprint or a fairly rare gun...

She better find a good lawyer now.
She should have shot him in the head.
To: mdittmar
I'm not sure how I feel about this...
On one hand, I'm sure she was probably filled with rage -- even without photographs of her son there was a very justifiable suspiscion that terrible things had happened to him.
On the other hand...she shot him twice. Is that appropriate, or should she have used a baseball bat, started with his legs, and worked his way up until his every bone in his body was pulverized?

That's the reason the American justice system relies on juries. A jury of your peers, other parents with children in this case, can sypathize with the circumstances and temper the statutes of law with an appreciation of the justice done by this woman.

40-year-old woman was found with a 9mm revolver in her hand Probably just a testament to the well informed press we have in this country...

Too bad it's nowhere near I live. I'd love to me on the jury which acquits her. Even more fun would be the 'what the hell happened?' look on the DA's face ... jury nullification works both ways.

"9 mm revolver" No misprint - just bad reporting and editing.
To: hobbes1
He's out on 9mm bail.
She's a good shot. She let him live with it.
