Need Your Suggestions- A Conservative Paper on a Liberal College Campus!
self ^ | 30 November 2001 | Capitalist Eric

Posted on 11/30/2001 6:24:28 PM PST by Capitalist Eric

At 34 years of age, I decided to take the plunge. Three months ago, I took a loan out on my house, quit my job, and went back to school at UC Davis, to get a degree in Managerial Economics. It'll take me about 14 more months...

However, I'm drowning in a sea of liberal/elitist commentary, articles (campus paper), and "rallies" promoting an anti-war movement, "Free Palestine," and anti-white American propaganda. If you think you know what I mean, believe me, it's worse. The campus paper is beholden to every radical group on campus, and I can't stand it any more.

So, I want to put together an internet newspaper, a la "the Federalist." But I need help- advice, help, ideas, whatever might be constructive to get the truth out there.

An example is the "Free Palestine" movement, when they were demonstrating two days ago. They listed two "resistance movements against zionist agression," the Hizbullah and Hamas.

Of course, this same group is responsible for killing a lot of our servicemen and women. But nobody talks about this fact.

I DO.

I REFUSE TO STAND BY, AND LET THE LIES CONTINUE!

As a conservative college student, believe me, I sympathize.

The key, I've found, is to understand the liberal perspective, and to realize in the vast majority of cases, many are liberals as a result of ignorance or misinformation rather than philosophy. The truth is your best friend.

Good luck!

Matter of fact, I do.

Consider talking to these guys.

They have an excellent program that supports conservative college newspapers, and a solid track record as an organization.

Unless you can find a lot of like-minded folks on campus, you'd probably be a lot better off putting your nose in your books, finish up as fast as you can, and get the hell out of there.

When you do get your degree and get back to work it might be easier to find a lot of like-minded folks (taxpayers) and then you can work toward defunding the damned cesspool.

Good luck.

log onto Federalist.com

They are a great source of quotes to cover any eventuality. Don't let the lib ba*tards beat you down.

When I was in college, Reagan was shot and there were cheers(!). It was right then I decided I'd reform away from the left. California universities are not forums for open discussion, they are about censoring the non-left.

Be prepared to be called racist, homophobe, neanderthal, gun nut, hate speaker, etc, etc.

Cool. I've added it to "my favorites" list. I'll be checking it out tomorrow. Right now, just trying to relax, enjoy my JD and Coke, wait for the wife to get home...

Frankly, I've been considering the idea of an internet paper, simply because the cost is minimal, and does a complete end-run around the liberal/socialist ninnies running the school...

Thanks for the tip!

Already been labelled as such.

They don't much like it, when you point out that affirmative action is racism (judging someones' abilities based on skin color).

I had one girl screaming and jumping up-and-down in place, she was in such a rage! Call me a racist bastard. I replied, "thank you," and pointed out that this was the last gasp attack of every liberal, when they couldn't argue the facts... And, that it was an intellectually lazy argument.

I WILL NOT SIT IDLY BY, ANY LONGER.

On the assumption that they are still very much in business, why not make touch with Dartmouth Review (from whence, among others, Dinesh D'Souza sprang)? They just might have some useful advice for you. Good luck!

Explain your positions logically, and do so as if talking to an adolescent. Many folks are liberals simply because they do not understand; they have been brainwashed by public schools and have never experienced the real world.

Also, make sure your distribution system is somewhat secure. Any paper that has controversial subject matter may be stolen before most students have a chance to find it. Be prepared to deliver small stacks of the paper to the same location several times a day. Have big people guard the papers. Consider an internet version as well; hard to steal, though it can be hacked.

Liberal professors and the hardcore militant types will want to silence you so that you don't influence others. Watch for them. Know them. Outwit them for fun.

This is just my personal opinion, but if you had other things in your paper that attracted students, like up-to-date movie schedules, places to eat cheap, guest speakers, meeting announcements, plus some good humor and chit-chat about stuff on campus, you might get people who are the cluless and fence-sitters. Let them read your opinions as an afterthought at first. (Conservatives will of course go to the political articles at once.)

This is how the mainstram media does it...traps people with talk of fashion and movie stars and then slips in the message. It is quite effective.

Maybe you could get an interview with someone like Ben Stein. He might spend 15 minutes with you to advance the cause.

As I said, these are my own suggestions. Check the experienced sites first. Good luck!

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not familiar with Dartmouth Review, or Dinesh D'Souza...?

I'm not being coy. I've heard of D'Souza, but I honestly don't remember where from. Not overly surprising, since my fields of expertise include nuclear power and robotics...

Could you enlighten me a little?

Consider an internet version as well; hard to steal, though it can be hacked.

This is my exact idea. Since I'm running on savings (and house equity) at this point, I've few resources at my disposal. Time is at a premium, money is downright non-existant. Hell, I keep the internet connection because I have to have it for school, and my wife is taking on-line courses towards her Masters' degree...

Since the internet version costs next-to nothing, it's the exact direction I'd like to take.

Do you have further suggestions, in this direction, or someone you can point me to, for this little project I wish to undertake???

I don't want to get into the newspaper idea, but please contact me about a new activism project we're calling (temporarily) "Ed Watch." We're looking for "investigators" to ferret out socialist professors on campus. Keep notes, preferably tapes, if possible.

"Be prepared to be called racist, homophobe, neanderthal, gun nut, hate speaker, etc, etc."

As a person who recieved three of my college degrees in CA I have got to agree. Keep your mouth shut and get the hell out. It's probability worse now than when I lived there. The engineering and business schools are a little safer than the left side of campus but not immune to the leftist PC bias that runs throughout the education establishment. Although I escaped the leftist universities with high GPa's, I will always remember the certain professors that made no bones about their leftist leanings and did eveything they could to promote like minded students while putting down students that came from the military or defense industries.

Ted Kazinksky wasn't as nuts as the media pretended him to be. A little confused maybe, nuts not at all.

When I was teaching thermo in CA, Joe Serna "Sacramento Mayor and professor" use to pass me occasionally on campus. He use to stare at me like someone just hit him in the ass with a sour apple. I'm almost certain from comments I recieved from others that he knew about my little under ground right wing paper.

That's certainly one approach. Another is to pester them relentlessly by posting signs in the night that say "Leftist Diversity: Where everyone looks different, but thinks the same...", or "Leftists Fear Dissent." with your url at the bottom.

Thanks for the tip!

You're more than welcome.

With pleasure. Dartmouth Review was begun in the early 1980s (D'Souza was one of the founding editors, along with Benjamin Hart, the son of Dartmouth English professor Jeffrey Hart, the longtime National Review senior editor) to offer an outlet for rightward student thought countering the campus's liberal official student paper. Dartmouth Review was controversial from the outset, especially when they printed a zippy attack on affirmative action in a parody of black street talk (it was called, "Dis Sho' Ain't No Jive, Bro'") and, when a group of students erected a South African-style shantytown in an apartheid protest on Dartmouth's famed green, editors formed a satirical "Committee to Beautify" and dismantled the shanties. Dartmouth Review inspired a host of new rightward college publications in the 1980s.

Dinesh D'Souza is probably their best-known and most successful alumnus; he is the author of, among others, The End of Racism and Illiberal Education. Today he is, I believe, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

Well, if you're going with the internet version, be prepared for a hack or two. The extreme among the left simply do not tolerate dissenting opinions (read John Leo's columns in US News for examples on how the left will try to stifle dissent). Get ready to reinstall the operating system and repost the paper. Go as bulletproof as you can. I'm not a computer guru, but I do know that keeping info on CD is useful. Also, like a corporation, keep a second backup at another physical location if you feel it is necessary.

You may want to leave the occasional flyer to draw attention to your site as well. Think marketing. You've got to let them know you're there.

Pay attention to all the other ideas here as well.

I think what you are doing is great. I urge you to take on the challenge; to get real with them. It should be fun, if the opposition is there. They will put up an obstacle and you will overcome it. It can be a bit of a game, though you must keep yourself focused on your purpose. Enjoy the challenge of overcoming the extremists, but please maintain your integrity. You will do more for the cause that way.
