There's a problem with the wildly successful Fox News Channel. It's too pro-American
So says the New York Times, in a bizarre report in Monday's Business section that speaks volumes about how "fair and balanced" journalism has liberal reporters irked to the point of distraction
By calling Osama bin Laden "a dirt bag" and "a monster" on the air, Fox commentators are giving their viewers a distorted perspective on his 9/11 attacks, says the Times
The Old Grey Lady also doesn't like it when Fox folks refer to bin Laden's al Qaeda gangsters as "terror goons" and "henchman
In the New York Times' world of moral relativism, it's important for Americans to understand that bin Laden may have had a legitimate gripe with the U.S
The paper cites the comments of Alex S. Jones, the director of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University, to sum up its own perspective
I think people need to understand what's going on on the other side of the equation, how the U.S. is viewed by its critics," Jones told the Times
The Times also sought out the opinion of ABC News chief David Westin, who criticized Fox for taking sides in the war on terrorism.
The American people right now need at least some sources for their news where they believe we're trying to get it right, plain and simply," he opined, "rather than because it fits with any advocacy we have."
Unmentioned by the Times: Just a month ago Westin himself had to apologize for telling a journalism class at Columbia University that reporters shouldn't take sides on whether the 9/11 attacks were wrong or right.
When his comments became public a firestorm erupted, forcing Westin to admit
I was wrong. Upon reflection, I realized that my answer did not address the specifics of September 11. Under any interpretation, the attack on the Pentagon was criminal and entirely without justification. I apologize for any harm that my misstatement may have caused
But the so-called paper of record's most revealing comment may be its complaint that Fox has altered "the usual anchor role of delivering the news free of personal opinion
Peter Jennings' reports, free of personal opinion? Dan Rather unbiased? Tom Brokaw - not slanted
Even the folks at the New York Times can't truly believe that
What a disgrace.
Libs amaze me with their perpetual anti-American stance on any/everything!
DITTO - and RIGHT ON...when is the New York Times going to stop thinking they are the CENTER of the World, not just a part of a city in the good ole USA.....I bet a lot of people at ground zero really appreciate their statements about FOX being TOO American....NOT.
Their argument that the terrorists had legitimate gripes became null and void on 9/11/01. It doesn't matter what those gripes may have been. Once you "go to the mattresses", dissent should not be condoned, because it gives aid and support to the enemy. And such dissent allows them the confirmation of the result of their actions, thus encouraging them to continue.
No negotiations, no discussions permitted. The Taliban and al-Quaeda must surrender or be killed.
Any news organization which publicly takes their side are "not with us, they are with the terrorists."
It is, indeed, rather incredible, considering that New York City was the object of the Terrorist attack, that the Times chooses to be objective, on this one, but has been for decades an involved participant in the ongoing smear attacks against Southern Culture, traditional American religion, people who oppose current educational myths, or who uphold traditional sexual values. Years ago--over a full generation ago--an ex-Times journalist wrote a book, exposing the Times well known bias, called All The News That Fits.
There may have been a time--before the second half of the Twentieth Century--when the Times really did have journalistic credentials. But that was before my time. For over fifty years, it has been a biased vehicle for promotion of a Fabian Socialist America. [It was no accident that I picked the New York Times to be one of the principal antagonists in my Novel, dealing with the coming collapse of the American Welfare State.] The significance of this attack on Fox is that it shows us where the Fabians are headed with respect to the present War. It is an eye opener, but not in the sense that it was intended to be.
