IAMI -- (AP) -- Former Vice President Al Gore will raise money for Democrats in Miami next week, his first visit to South Florida since last year's presidential election.
Gore will attend the event on behalf of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., who has to remain in Washington handling legislation, said Daschle spokeswoman Anita Dunn. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., had also planned to attend but will remain in Washington, her spokeswoman said.
``When it became clear that the senators could not come, we were looking for someone who would be viewed as equal or better,'' Dunn said. ``Vice President Gore is one of the leaders of the party.''
Chris Korge, an attorney and party activist, and aircraft leasing owner Stuart Cauff will play host to the Dec. 12 event at their side-by-side homes in Pinecrest. The fund raiser -- expected to raise $500,000 -- will cost $5,000 per couple and benefit the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Gore has begun to attend political events after maintaining a low-profile following last year's presidential loss. He has not decided whether to seek the presidency again in 2004.
I guess Fidel had a prior commitment.
Along with Aventura and the Beach, "Steincrest" (unfair, since many non-jewish libs live there) is one of the last remaining enclaves of wealthy gringo liberals in the county. I only shop there because it has the closest Wild Oats!
Pity Poker
Oh great...Florida was just beginning to get rid of the stench from his last visit.
By the way, Al Gore will be catering the event with food from the Shonney's he's running in Tennessee. Or not.
If by handling legislation, you mean screwing America.
Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 Reno Visit Prompts Walkout at Florida's Capitol Florida guv wannabe Janet Reno got a frosty reception in Tallahassee today, thanks to her well-known record as Bill Clinton's aider and abettor. Reno, dubbed the most incompetent attorney general in modern history by Fox News star Bill O'Reilly, was introduced as a visitor in the state House. "We decided that we had to demonstrate ... that we did not welcome Ms. Reno to the House of Representatives considering the manner in which she treated Elian Gonzalez," said Rep. Carlos Lacasa, R-Miami. Cuban-American lawmakers and three other Republican legislators got up and walked out, the Associated Press reported. "I know they feel very strongly, but I made a decision based on what was right for a little boy and his daddy," Reno said after leaving the chamber. Will she also make that "for the children" claim about Waco?
It is a little known fact that Al:
1. Invented the Cuban beat.
2. Miami Vice was based on Al's real life experiences.
3. Played quarterback for the Dolphins under an assumed name one year.
4. Personally led the Bay of Pigs invasion but was done in by that traitor Kennedy.
5. Caught the largest Marlin ever weighed in South Florida. Unfortunately, he ate it.
I guess Fidel had a prior commitment.
I hear Lucifer is steaming. He used to be the only one considered equal or better than Hillary. Gore has really moved up with that Florida operation last year. Fidel is not really even in the running...
Daschle was to be on a fundraising trip to several cities next week. He told Tim Russert he had cancelled the trip because he needed to be in DC. Wonder who will fill in for him in the other cities, including Kansas City, now?
