ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 7 AT&T Corp.s broadband unit said Friday it has completed the move of 850,000 former Excite At Home users to its new high-speed Internet network, less than one week after Excite cut off high-speed Internet service to the telecommunications giant.

This is not true. Ft. Collins, Loveland and Greeley Colorado are still without service. AT&T is denying this to the public, but a population area of about 250,000 people are still offline.

Mombonn, are you up?
To: ScottLA37
This is not true. I am supposed to be transitioned today. In Greeley Colorado.

We are still down here in Ft. Collins. I hear that northern colorado is still out. Any Freepers on the front range care to comment? I am using the free AO Hell right now.

Yeah, sure . . . AT&T really has reconnected us here in Sacramento -- at 56K. For this they want $50/mo? I'll give them a month or two to fix it, then I'm gone.

Yes! Thursday a.m., I believe. I have new email addy, I'll send it to you.

I have a contact at AT&T and I will see if I can get some word as to when your area will be up. I just called and he isn't in the office until Monday morning. Hopefully you will be back up by then but I will check in any event.

For those of you out there who think the
government should take over and regulate internet access... Know this...
AT&T did in about one week what would have taken the government 2 years and 128 billion dollars to do...
The free market is always the quickest, always the cheapest, and is always right...
Always... Without exception...

Where did this come from? Who wants the gub ment to regulate the internet? I don't.

Hi. Hinsdale, IL here. Was back up last Wednesday. Purrrrs like a kitten and races like a cheetah! Haven't figured out my new email addy though.
To: ScottLA37
Sorry dude... I didn't mean that for you specifically...
There have been sheeple (I mean people), around here clamoring for government control of broadband access since Excite went under...
I was merely trying to state how colossally stupid a move like letting the government control internet access would be...
Maybe one day the sheeple will learn...
A truly free, capitalist market is the best friend you will ever have...
Peace.

Same here in GR. Was initially told we would be back online on Friday, but it came early. The only problem I am having is with my router, but I expect that my brother should be able to solve that. It works just as good as before, plus I am no longer getting all that spam from those who don't know the new address. Bonus.

The same guy that's lead the charge to tax sales on the internet. Governor John Engler. What's with this guy? I wish he was more like Jim Gilmore. Gilmore is totally hands off when it comes to the internet. On this Engler is almost soviet central planning in his thinking.

I musta been lucky. I was down 12-01, back 12-02. It must be my good karma and clean, all American living. Maybe I'm "special".
See, I practice "diversity" and "multiculturalism", maybe that's why I'm first back. If I had children, they would have done it for "the children".
Maybe it's because I live in Texas and if they hadn't restored us first, we wudda kicked their a$$es!

I'm sorry to hear that they've gotten ahead of themselves with their boasts, but for the most part it sounds as if they've done pretty well.
Ever since Ma Bell was broken up, it seems to me that AT&T has been about the worst managed piece of the old empire. They thought they were getting the cream of the business, but as it turned out people with stock in the Baby Bells did a heck of a lot better.
But in this case it sounds as if they've done the right thing. It was probably better to inconvenience a lot of their subscribers than to sign on to a very poor and expensive deal with Excite, which doesn't seem to know what it's doing.

Who wants the gub ment to regulate the internet? I don't. I don't want the gub the regulate the internet, but I want the States to regulate the public franchise utilities. I want 30 days notice before vital services are interrupted.

I'm having the same problem. Connectivity has been really twitchy. Sometimes download speeds are as fast as can be. Other times, it's been really slow. There are periods that last about 3 minutes where I cannot access anything at all. So when AT&T says that they are up and running just fine and everything is fixed, I say bull! The internet service does not have the stability that it did before and download/upload speeds are constantly in flux. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes it's slow, sometimes it isn't there at all.
One other weird problem has been surfacing. Some of the threads on FreeRepublic that have pictures have not been coming up on my computer. Somebody will post a picture of something and all I see is a red X. The picture must be posted correctly because everybody is commenting on it. If I go back later, I can usually see the picture. Maybe it's something funny with my computer, but I never had this problem before last weekend.
