TEHRAN The representatives of 1.2 billion Muslims of the world, assembled in Doha, Qatar, Monday blasted Israel's massacre and repression of the Palestinians, and called for international intervention to put an "immediate end" to attacks on the Palestinians, and urged the United States to admit that "struggle against occupation is legitimate".
Speaking at a ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) convened to discuss the plight of the Palestinians in the wake of Israeli unabated massacres, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the current head of the OIC, called for the setting up of a high-profile Islamic panel to work toward ending 14 months of Israeli-Palestinian violence and a resumption of Middle East peacemaking.
This is a very positive development, the entire Islamic world has unanimously condemned the atrocities against the Palestinians and also made a distinction between terrorism and struggle against the occupation of the Palestinian territories, a university lecturer Hamid Keshavarz told the TEHRAN TIMES.
However, it is not enough. The OIC must not confine itself to words, what the Palestinians need at this crucial juncture is action, he added.
Luckily, some of OIC member states have realized this fact. For instance, Qatar's emir told the OIC ministers: "This meeting should not be a platform for speeches. We must make of it a real test for our collective will and historic responsibility toward the Palestinian cause, both in words and deeds."
Also talking to the TEHRAN TIMES, another university lecturer, Mohammad Baqeri said, the OIC's stance had two outstanding features: first unanimous condemnation of the Israeli atrocities; and second, giving a message to the world that the struggles of the Palestinians is legitimate. Palestinian President Yasser Arafat called for the summit last Monday after Israel launched its fiercest air attacks since the start of the Palestinian uprising against occupation, but was unable to attend due to the Israeli actions.
"Our people have no other choice but to resist (Israeli) aggression and occupation," Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat said in a speech read out on his behalf by chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat at the ministerial meeting convened in Qatar to discuss the Palestinian plight.
"It's a legitimate right," he said.
Arafat reiterated his call for a force to protect Palestinians through the establishment of an "international mechanism that will force Israel to put an end to its aggression against the Palestinian people, its national authority and its president."
"Occupation is the cause of terrorism," said PLO Political Chief Faruq Kaddumi, adding that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's policy of "assassinations and destruction" fed the violence.

More empty words. Amazing, though, that they were able to agree on these.

Islamic culture is inherently evil.
That's all I have to say
To: Heisenburger
Of course Islamic culture is inherently evil: it was Satan who founded it, thinly disguised as the angel Gabriel. "Behold, Satan is come down to you disguised as an angel of light."
But what a place this meeting would have been, to demonstrate a daisy cutter.

It is strange that every time a press release goes out regarding muslims that the world's ESTIMATED number of muslims must be mentioned. The number is always huge (right around 1-1.5 billion). Is the intent of the writer or the speaker to intimidate along the lines of "mob rule"? I think so. Oh yes- it appears that the OIC, which fronts itself as a religious organization, is delving pretty deep into political action. If any American muslims "religious"groups are part of it, can they lose their tax-exempt status?

Wiping 'em out would be an act of self-defense...

amazing! 1.2 billion muslims are obsessed with israel, psychotically fixated on 5 million people. we never hear a peep from these same muslims about the slaughter of thousands of women and children in algeria, the repression of muslims BY muslims in the middle east.the persecution of christians by muslims in every islamic country.i could go on for hours detailing the sins of muslims but it's late and i'm tired. i wish the islamic world would just shut up and go away.

1.2 billion. Hmmm...My Janes Defense Weekly Arms Estimator says we'll need at least 100 daisy cutters for "crowd control."

Islam has hated and persecuted Jews and Christians since its inception. The only way they understand co-existence is to permit us to live if we agree to their domination. This wil never happen. Their real accomplishment in the last thirty years has been to double their population. Now they are incapable of caring for themselves without Western aid.

Muslims have nothing to say to anyone about anything until they do a lot of house cleaning. I never thought I would get more tired of someone yapping then the liberals. I was wrong. The constant carping and moaning from these morally bankrupt Muslims is even worse than the libs.

Funny how that worked out.

What did the OIC say about:
....Abu Sayaff beheading innocent people in the Philipines?
....Laskar Jihad burning 300+ churches in Indonesia?
....Sudanese muslims engaging in the slave trade in Sudan?
....Persecution and jailing of Christians in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Algeria, Pakistan?
A young Syrian was on a TV talk show not to long ago, angry about the US policy toward Israel and the Palestinians. She said:
"You know, in our Arab culture, we believe that if you are silent, it means you approve!"
I wish I could ask that young lady this question.

i wish the islamic world would just shut up and go away.If the demonstration in Afghanistan is not sufficient, we will repeat the demonstration in as many countries as necessary as to make them do just that.

This would've been an excellent occasion for a Daisy Cutter. All the terrorists were in one room. A missed opportunity.

All 1.2 billion of them? Or a few mullah/cleric whack jobs that insist on leading their flocks astray? Perhaps they should concern themselves less with other people's problems and concentrate on their own. Something about tending the plank in your own eye first so you can see clearly to help your neighbor remove the mote in his own.

Considering there is not one freely elected government in the entire Islamic world, I have to wonder how these idiots can claim to represent 1.2 billion Muslims. All they represent are the ruling elites.
