NOGALES, Ariz. Another tunnel used to smuggle drugs under the Mexican border was uncovered Tuesday
The tunnel, which apparently originated in a Mexican storm drain and led to a Nogales home, was the ninth such passage found in the border city since 1995. It was linked to the seizures in November of 956 pounds of cocaine and 839 pounds of marijuana
It appears smugglers break a hole in a concrete drain in Mexico to obtain access to the tunnel. After every drug shipment is made, the hole is patched to avoid detection by Mexican authorities and rival smuggling organization," the U.S. Customs Service said
Customs said it became aware in August of the existence of a new tunnel connected to the house. No arrests were immediately announced.
The Nogales area has a number of underground culverts that run between Mexico and Arizona and are used by drug smugglers to dig tunnels that often terminate inside one of the many private homes in the hills along the border.

That whole AZ-Sonora border area has become a mess thanks to the drug smugglers, not to mention the coyotes sneaking illegals in. I used to live down there, and became friendly with some of the Border Patrol guys I shot IPSC with, and they used to regularly engage in firefights with smugglers in the desert. Some of the ranchers with spreads near the border had problems as well. I never really felt safe camping or four-wheeling near the border unless I was carrying.

"They need to find all of them" No. They need to work on protecting us from terrorists and other much more serious threats such as rapists and murderers.
Drugs cause harm - no doubt about that. But so does tobacco and alcohol (tens of thousands of deaths apiece every year for each). We've accepted that damage because (1) it is mostly restricted to those who choose their lifestyle, and (2) we can't stop it anyway. Illegal drugs, particularly marihuana, fit this same paradigm.
Those killed by terrorism, by contrast, are practically all innocent victims. And it's government's job to provide for defense of our country, but I don't see anything in the Constitution giving it authority to tell people what they can consume.

Anyone who thinks that the US borders are secure from WMD should read this article. If some Al Qaeda operative who had experence in some Afghanistan tunnel were to think of digging under teh border and renting out his tunnel to drug smugglers while he brought in what he wanted would make a fortune and get whatever wanted to into the USA.

If they found them all how would you expect the CIA, NSA, ect. to fund all their black projects? If we want to solve the drug problem in this country we sould be aggressively chasing the money launderers instead of protecting them.

You know the old joke: "How do you smuggle a nuke into America? Hide it in a shipment of cocaine."
To: Travis McGee
Yeah I know the joke but unfortunately it is no longer very funny.

After every drug shipment is made, the hole is patched to avoid detection by Mexican authorities and rival smuggling organization..... The Mexican authorities couldn't find their own butts with a search warrant. The reason they didn't find the hole is because they are on the take. End of story!!
