Chicago is No 1 in Murder

With less than two weeks left in the year, Chicago is poised to overtake New York for only the second time on record and log the most homicides of any city in the nation.

Chicago had recorded 648 slayings through Wednesday. New York, with three times as many residents, had 619 killings. Equally troubling is that Chicago homicides are up this year--there were 629 killings in 2000--after falling every year since 1994.

This is an unintended tribute to Rudolph Giuliani.

Observe the touchy-feely approach of Chicago vs. no-nonsence policy of Giuliani. They reap what they saw, but the Left continues on the same destructive path of victimization of the criminal.

These officials in Chicago have been repeating the same mantra for so long that they do not even pay attention to the words any longer. Observe how the Chicago official says that one of the characteristics of their work is how the community feels. Not the number of those murdered in Chicago, but how the remaining, surviving residents feel.

After September 11, we have repeatedly heard that the main task of our government is to protect the people. Should we not expect the same from police, whose only task is to protect?

Hey, New York had at least 3500 more murders for the year than Chicago did.

Unmentioned, as usual, is the fact that shootings BY police went DOWN under Rudy.

And if there are more murders in Chicago than NYC, I'd have to say more folks in the Windy City are having their rights violated than the residents of Gotham.

New York has about 7.9 Million People. Chicago has 2.7 Million people. We're talking per capita here.

"There's no history of support in this organization for bouncing command level personnel out of their assignments because of the crime rate."

I.e. there's zero accountability.

1. Since the administration of Jane Byrne, private possession of handguns has been illegal in Chicago.

2. Chicago PD is a major proponent of the "community policing" popular under Dinkins and Lee Brown in NYC.

Chicago has 2.7 Million people. We're talking per capita here. That is exactly right! The statistics, which are taken over eight years, are very telling --- a condemnation, in my view, of the "criminal-hugging" approach to law enforcement.

And, as usual, no mention is made of the fact that a city the size of Brooklyn + Staten Island combined, with a DEMOCRATIC mayor, will likely end up with more murders than all of GOP-ruled NYC.

No, these are absolute numbers, which shows how bad the situation in Chicago really is. Per capita, New York, even at its worst, never had the highest murder rate in the nation, and was rarely even in the top 5.

Chicago is No 1 in Murder

No kidding. Just last Sunday about 50 guys from Tampa Bay showed up. They were all murdered in the middle of Soldiers' Field in front of 60,000 people.

**The toll this year in New York does not include the more than 3,000 people killed in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. They are being treated as casualties of war, not homicides.**

Another reason why you can't trust statistics. I suppose intentionally crashing airplanes into buildings which subsequently collapse doesn't count as homicide because it doesn't fit well into the statistical breakdown which would have shown an astronomical rise in that cause of death from the year before.

Reminds me of a scene from that cop movie with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines:

Hines: The coroner ruled a cause of death for that jumper (off a tall building) yesterday.
Crystal: Let me guess - "deceleration trauma".

I guess the capita it gets down to is whether Giuliani or Daley is heading up the city government.

Good post.

You know, if we had any serious black leaders in this city or this country, this would be a good time for them to speak up on the merits of the Chicago vs. New York styles of policing.

But alas we seem to have few such people -- just our modern day court jesters like the Rev. Jackson.

When I lived in Chicago (Hyde Park, then Uptown) from 1997-1999, Daley was treated as a god by many Chicagoans.

"[Crime statistics] were the sole judge of whether or not New York was succeeding as a police department," Needham said. "We've never done that in Chicago. We believe there is this whole other aspect of police work that doesn't lend itself to ready statistical analysis--how do we relate with a diverse population and what does the general public think of the job we're doing."

Ahhh..... diversity...

Definitely worth a few hundred extra dead bodies every year. 'Crime statistics' be damned. For as long as we agree to stay diverse and celebrate our differences we can certainly absorb the extra bloodshed and, after all, it's good for the economy too. The extra muredred mean:

- less unemployment

- fewer welfare recipients

- more Social Security money to the dead survivors

- more business for the funeral industry

- a reduced jail population

In other words: diversity + murders = community advances

That's because if you do not treat him like a god, you will find yourself dead in a trunk.

Personally I think the title matches perfectly with our big THUG mayor. He is the Biggest crook of them all.

If Ruddy needs a job, we have on in Chicago.

Daley is the biggest advocate of socialism that ever walked!
